This week is the Australian Nanny Association's Nanny Appreciation Week and with one in ten families we polled this year using the services of a nanny, either full or part time, nannies play an integral part of many Australian families' lives.
Whether you agree or not with the concept or cost of having a nanny, there's no denying that they provide many Australian families with a lifeline and support.
Although long day care is the most popular form of child care, for some families, it doesn't provide the flexibility they need. For those with odd or long working hours, several children in preschool care or spanning pre-school and primary school or indeed those families who have young children with special care requirements, nannies can often be a better solution.
Regardless of why we choose or need a nanny, like other early childhood and care professionals we entrust our children, the most precious people in our lives to them. They are in sole charge of our children's health, welfare, enjoyment, education and love most of the working week.
The New Year is one of the most popular times for parents to get back to work and also to go about finding child care. So nannies are in hot demand right now!
Whether you need a daily nanny, live in nanny, part-time nanny, mother's help or maternity/night nanny, if you're looking to hire one, the safest and most reliable way is via an agency that has the expertise to both interview nannies and also to vet them for you to verify their qualifications and carry out police checks and general references.
We'd all love to have the time to interview nannies ourselves, but the reality is that we neither have the time, nor the experience to potentially spot a problem. And this is where the nanny agencies earn their introduction fees. Not only do they take the pain out of the interview process, they also give us much needed peace of mind.
