Australian Red Cross Young Parents Program
Australian Red Cross Young Parents Program (YPP) works to ensure best outcomes for children and families by improving the capacity of young parents with complex needs, aged 13-24, to live and parent independently. It is a program designed to meet the needs of pregnant and parenting young women and men who are unable (due to multiple internal and external factors) to access elsewhere the safety, security and support required to parent their child effectively. Through a strengths-based early intervention approach, YPP builds the capacities of the young parents to live independently in appropriate housing, develop parenting skills to ensure the best outcomes for their children, and break the cycle of intergenerational trauma, abuse and neglect.
Key features of the YPP program include:
- Staged support and accommodation for families over several years
- Individually tailored case management
- Vocational education and training
- Parenting and life skills workshops
- Strong focus on supporting child learning and development
- Supported playgroup delivered on site
- Best practice childcare and respite is provided by volunteers supported by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher
- Trained and qualified volunteers provide support such as tutoring, individual mentoring, driving lessons and exercise classes.
Tiffany Circle Support
YPP Family Education and Community Support
Red Cross is grateful for the support of the Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders, the generous contribution of $150,000 a year, which your on-line survey donation will form part of for three years. It will ensure the continuation of critical wrap around child development, education and volunteer support work for all families at all sites of YPP, supporting sustainable outcomes that help to break the cycle of disadvantage, abuse and neglect.
