What is a virtual open day?
So, what actually is a virtual open day? We’re glad you asked. The Care for Kids Virtual Open Day will be staged completely online, so you can tune in from anywhere in Australia. Hosted by the Beyond the Bump podcasters and presented by Care for Kids, our virtual open day is here to cover everything you need to know about childcare. We’ll be answering all your early childhood service-related questions so you can navigate the world of childcare with confidence and ease.
We’ve teamed up with a number of leading childhood experts to deliver a series of curated workshops that cover all things childcare. From how to prepare your family for the big change to what to look for in a service and even managing those pesky childcare sicknesses, we’ve got all the childcare basics covered to put your mind at ease. And the best part? It’s absolutely free!
You’ll be able to tune into one of our fantastic workshops every evening from the 10th to the 14th of September from 7.30pm AEST. Once your little ones have (hopefully) gone to sleep. All you have to do is register for the event and you’ll have access to all five workshops.
The agenda
When it comes to childcare, we know just how confusing the whole process can be. To help you navigate the journey with confidence, we’ve teamed up with some of the leading childhood experts to help answer your questions and cover those hard-hitting topics.

Here’s a quick rundown of what each session will cover.
Sleep with Dr Golly
As a parent, chances are you’ve experienced some sort of challenges when it comes to getting your little one to sleep. Luckily, Dr Golly is here to help. Join Dr Daniel Golshevsky (AKA Dr Golly), a paediatrician and sleep and settling expert, for all things sleep-related. During this session, we’ll cover:
- How to align sleeping at home with sleeping at childcare,
- Will my routines be ruined,
- Why my child naps at childcare but never at home,
- How educators manage to get 20+ babies or toddlers sleeping in a room, and
- How to tell when it’s time to drop a daytime nap.
Behaviour with Dr Kaylene Henderson
Another common pain point for many parents is behaviour management strategies, especially when transitioning them into childcare. To help, we’ve called in trusted child psychiatrist and parenting expert Dr Kaylene Henderson, to chat about:
- Your child's essential attachment needs for optimal long-term outcomes,
- How to ensure your little one's attachment needs are met once they start in childcare,
- The kind of relationship to encourage between your child and their educator, and
- The impact of starting childcare on your child's behaviour - what to expect and how to respond.

- How to boost immunity to help reduce the spread of sickness before the winter season commences, and
- Learn about red flags and fevers and what to do/when to take action.
School readiness with Leor Founder, Andrea
Leor is an early childhood service that delivers education and care in family homes. Founder Andrea will share her insights on school readiness, including:
- Whether literacy and numeracy skills are crucial to preparing children for school,
- What skills do children need to develop before they transition to school, and
