KU launches events in Victoria
For the first time, KU Children's Services is excited to be bringing our extensive professional learning calendar to Victoria. The program is aimed at teachers, educators and cooks and includes topics about pedagogy and practice, the arts, technology and relationships with children.

Last year more than 5,300 teachers and educators benefited from KU professional learning programs and we are pleased to provide the opportunity for teachers, educators and cooks in Victoria to participate and gain value from our informative and engaging events.

Perspectives on Infancy Professional Development Day
Friday 11 May 2018
Karstens Melbourne, 123 Queen Street, Melbourne

This exciting professional learning day will provide delegates with unique perspectives on infant development and learning. Each speaker will present different insights into the crucial role of educators in the life of infants. They will speak from their theoretical, cultural and philosophical perspective providing delegates with an opportunity to reflect on practice. Opportunities will also be provided for participants to engage in conversation with these experts.

The speakers

Katherine Bussey – Infants and Toddlers as Learners

Dr Katherine Bussey, is an infant and toddler specialist and advocate. She has spent the last 16 years learning about, and developing practice based on the Pikler approach and Magda Gerber's Educaring Approach (RIE). Katherine mentors and provides professional learning to educators, engaging in inspiring critical reflection, learning and growth in infant and toddler teams.

Lynn Farrell – Supporting Infants and Toddlers experiencing vulnerability

Lynn has worked at The Infants' Home Child & Family Services for over 10 years. Her area of interest and expertise is working with infants and families and she is a strong advocate for children's rights and social justice.

Christa Lam-Cassettari and Karen Mattock – Infant directed speech and language development

Dr Christa Lam-Cassettari and Dr Karen Mattock are part of the research team with MARCS Babylab at Western Sydney University. Their expertise is in infant language development and language acquisition. Their presentation will focus on the importance of language with infants and toddlers.

Paul Prichard – Engagement with Families

Paul is the Manager for Training and Development at the Centre for Community Child Health at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Royal Children's Hospital. His two passions are promoting the important role fathers play in children’s lives and improving community engagement and collaboration to enable the voices of disengaged families in the design and implementation of early childhood services.

Annette Sax – Building Authentic Relationships with Aboriginal Families and Infants

Annette Sax is a Taungurung woman and has been operating Yarn Strong Sista, Aboriginal education consultancy for 17 years. She has 27 years of experience working in Aboriginal Early Childhood Education. Yarn Strong Sista provides support and information for educators who aim to deliver an Indigenous inclusive curriculum.
