July 2, 2019
Welcome, this week a reminder about the new staff ratios taking effect in less than six months, and how to help children develop strong foundations for life by boosting their resilience.
Are you ready?
New staffing requirements come into effect in 2020
With less than six months to go until new early childhood staffing requirements come into effect, now is the time to confirm you are prepared.

From 1 January 2020, long day care providers and preschools/kindergartens are required to have a second early childhood teacher or a 'suitably qualified person' in attendance when 60 or more preschool aged children or younger are being educated and cared for.

This requirement applies in all states and territories except NSW where the new child to educator ratio took effect several years ago.
Resilience lessons for early childhood
Resilience is the ability to cope with life's ups and downs and is important for mental health and wellbeing of children. It's developed through social and emotional interaction and strengthened with practice.

Early childhood educators are in a strong position to create empowering environments for children to foster their independence and sense of responsibility through play-based learning experiences. Learning basic skills and good habits early on can help small children deal with challenges in life. This week we have some simple tips for building resilience among the children in your service.
