September 8, 2020
Welcome, its National Child Protection week and we talked to the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) National Manager for Child Safe Organisations, Sammy Bruderer, to learn more about the role of early childhood services in safeguarding children. Also, morale boosting ideas for early childhood teams and tell us how you celebrated Early Childhood Educators' Day.
How did you celebrate Early Childhood Educators' Day?
Last Wednesday 2 September was Early Childhood Educators’ Day, a special opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the extraordinary work of early childhood staff across Australia.

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, but early childhood educators across the country have gone above and beyond to reassure and educate children and to support families. These efforts are ongoing.

In an effort to genuinely and sincerely thank educators many services have made extra efforts this Early Childhood Educators’ Day.

For example, each of the Green Leaves Early Learning Centres hosted a morning or afternoon tea to celebrate the hard work of the educators, and centre directors provided personalised gifts to the educators as well as a certificate of appreciation.

Families and children also had an opportunity to show their appreciation by writing a note for educators on a leaf, which was pinned to a gratitude tree in each centre.

Putting Children First this National Child Protection Week
This week (6-12 September) is National Child Protection week. We interviewed National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) National Manager for Child Safe Organisations, Sammy Bruderer, to learn more about the role of early childhood services in protecting the wellbeing of our children.

What are the consequences of abuse and neglect for young children?

The basic architecture of our brains is constructed through an ongoing process that begins before birth and continues into adulthood. Like building a home, the process begins with laying the foundation, framing the rooms and wiring the electrical system - all in the right sequence. Early experiences shape how the brain gets built; a strong foundation in the early years increases the probability of positive outcomes. A weak foundation increases the risk of difficulties later in life.
Boosting morale is critical in times of uncertainty
The early childhood sector has been on the frontline during the pandemic caused by COVID-19, working hard to support the education and welfare of children, and families, against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, world-changing issues and anxiety, and, it isn't over yet.

Understandably these issues take a toll on emotional and physical wellbeing, this week we take a look at some tried-and-true strategies to boost and maintain the morale of your team.
