Grandparents play an important part in families and usually have a positive impact in children's lives as care givers and role models.
The strength of the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is often based on the fact they are a step removed from the parents and children and teenagers may find it easier to confide in their grandparents.
Children also seem to respect and listen to their grandparents far more than their parents. Have you noticed how much better behaved your children are around their grandparents?
They may not always understand their grandchildren's world (gadgets, YouTube and constant social media interaction still confound some), but they have a completely unique relationship with their grandchildren and a vested interest in seeing them do well.
In addition, grandparents are brilliant teachers; more patient and understanding than they probably were as parents; fun loving and kind, caring and dependable.
Not all grandparents can be around their children. Some live nearby, some live far away, some are no longer with us… but whether near or far, Grandparents always have a special place in their grandchildren's hearts.
My Granddad
My granddad is unique
There's no one quite like him:
He'd rather watch the TV,
Than walk or have a swim!
He eats chocolate on the sofa
And drinks his rum and coke,
He might eat lots of naughty things,
But I'm glad he doesn't smoke.
He winds me up and teases me,
Tells me how much he knows
Pretends that he's a monster
And tries to bite my toes.
He can be pretty GRUMPY;
In fact, that's his nickname!
But even though he's cranky,
I love him just the same.
My Granny
My granny's always busy,
She's rarely very still.
She does everything for granddad
I suppose she always will!
She's happiest in the garden,
Planting herbs and flowers and things.
Or walking down the lane,
When she often hums and sings!
Whenever I'm at granny's
She always makes nice cakes
My favourite is her coffee one
I'll eat anything she bakes!
We do lots of things together
Like sewing, sticking and craft
My granny's so creative
And talented at art.
When mummy is away for work,
Or needs to get things done,
I love to go to granny's,
'Cause we have lots of fun!
