We live in Blacktown and I work in Sydney, which is a 45 minute train trip. I work 3 days a week and Toby goes to childcare in Blacktown, so I drive to the childcare in the morning, drop off Toby and then go and get the train to work.

I went back to work when Toby was six months old and I had a month off before I had him. Going back to work was a financial necessity for us as my husband and I are saving for our first home. Initially it was really hard leaving Toby with someone else and missing him when I went to work, but he loves it and I'm very happy.

Toby goes to the Blacktown Anglican Childcare which I found on the CareforKids.com.au website. I was looking for somewhere that offered care facilities for babies, was close to the station and was clean and friendly. I actually found it really easily using the search on the website. (The centre's icon shows up clearly on the Google map, right near the station!)

I really wouldn't do anything different in the way I looked for child care because it was so easy! The location is spot on and I like the fact that it is run by the church, because unlike some privately owned centres, at least I know they won't go broke!

I am really happy with Toby's child care centre and I have found that he has developed a lot quicker while he's been there. He obviously loves it too because he never cries when I drop him off and if anything, he gets excited when we're walking towards the building in the morning.

Recently Toby got bitten by one of the other children at the centre. The child care centre rang me immediately to notify me what had happened, which is their procedure. When I told my husband that evening, he just said, "oh well, when he gets teeth he can bite them back!" Clearly we wouldn't really advocate that, but it was funny at the time and highlights the fact that it's just a fact of life there and we shouldn't get overly stressed about it. It happens to most of the kids at some point*.

I think that child care is often given a bad rap, but all of my friends who send their children to child care speak highly of it and I have a lot of respect for anyone who works in child care ? it's a huge responsibility and doesn't pay very well, so you know that the most of the carers are really genuine in their love for their job.
