Welcome to Kids Cottage Early Childhood Services - Hunters Hill
Kids Cottage recognise and value the child as a citizen with rights and responsibilities, capable and resourceful. Kids Cottage acknowledge the importance of the early years for laying the foundations for later development and learning. We recognise that care and education are interwoven and cannot be separated.
Kids Cottage community does not just transition or prepare children for school. Kids Cottage prepares children for a successful pathway to life.
Kids Cottage shares the view of children’s lives as characterised by belonging, being and becoming. Kids Cottage believes this process begins as early as prenatal as children are connected to family, community, culture and place. Kids Cottage also believe in an old African proverb, “it takes a community to raise a child”.
Our Kids Cottage motto is “Ready for Kindy, Ready for Life”.
Our service practice reflects on the beliefs that are beyond the traditional development domains that are: physical; cognitive; language; social, and emotional. Our main philosophy which guides our practice reflects the belief that this traditional approach only meets the needs of the child and is not enough to achieve high quality care and learning.
Nutrition
The service has a qualified certificate III level childcare support worker (cook) qualified in nutrition, menu planning and food handling, providing for morning and afternoon teas, late afternoon tea, lunch and any snacks. The meals prepared meet daily nutritional requirements, are sensitive to cultural and dietary needs, support and enhance diversity, and include families and children in menu planning. The cook works in collaboration with educators, children and families with regards to menu planning and cooking experiences. This process plays a major part in the program/curriculum and fostering the wellness and wellbeing of the service community.
