The Women’s Child Care Centre is a not-for-profit workplace child care centre that is operated by the hospital at the Parkville campus. We offer Long Day Care to the children of hospital staff and also occasional places for children of patients at the Parkville campus.
This service enables women to discuss their health care confidentially and without interruption or distraction. Our child care centre provides care for children from the age of 12 weeks to 7 years old.
The Centre is open from 9am-5pm for care for patient's children. Care can be provided for up to two hours per day, and longer care can be arranged by discussion with the centre coordinator.
Bookings are usually required. On occasions, it may be possible for patients to arrange child care at the centre without an advance booking.

After having a bad experience with a child care close to home, we decided to try this one at my husband's work. We were so happy to tour this place and see how it ran, Margaret made us feel welcomed and comfortable straight away. My children loved the centre and thrived within the environment, most of the educators have worked together for over 20 years, it always felt like I was leaving my children with doting nanna's and auntie's opposed to staff. I knew they were being looked after, that their coats were being put on if they were cold, or their noses were being wiped if they were running. I knew they were being cared for like they would have been at home and that's so very important. My children were deffinetly not just another number, which is how it can feel in those larger child care centres. I also loved that my kids were together and not separated into different areas. Food was also great and my kids would come home full and happy after a day at childcare. My eldest also had the option to be taken on great excursions, to the state library, the park, the Vic market, a police station and many more! (Or stay with her baby brother at the centre of she wasn't in the mood) Now with my eldest in school, I need to find a new childcare closer to home, but am finding it extremely hard to find anything that remotely compares to the amazing care my children were given at this centre. I will always be grateful to the staff at this centre for the care they provided my children, I only wish my children could have been there again this year. If you work at the hospital and are considering the childcare, go have a tour, it's like a hidden oasis, you don't even feel like you're inside the hospital! The outside area is great too! Read more
