Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years
Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!
Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years
Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.
On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.
Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.
Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years
Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.
The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.
Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.
Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.
Morning
Jesse is 11 months old and enjoys sensory play outside in the sandpit with her friends. She sits near her educator who helps teach her how to scoop the sand into the bucket. Jesse is learning how to dig, carry, and move the sand. She is also exploring texture and learning what happens to the sand when she adds water!
Lunch
Jesse has finished her lunch and is preparing to take a nap. Her educator changes her nappy, prepares a bottle and reads Jesse a story before her afternoon sleep.
Afternoon
Jesse and some of her nursery friends enjoy some story time and songs outside in the shaded garden. They read ‘Peepo’ which is Jesse’s favourite book.
Morning
Nick is two and a half years old and loves to start his day at the centre outside on the climbing equipment. His friends join him, and together they pretend to be pirates on a ship looking for treasure. Through this exciting dramatic play, Nick is learning about himself and the world around him. Dramatic play is helping Nick identify his interests, abilities, likes and dislikes.
Lunch
Nick is watering the vegetables in the garden. By doing this, Nick is learning the importance of growing and caring for the veggies in the garden. Nick picks a tomato from the garden, which the Chef will use to help make Nick and his friend’s lunch - Spaghetti Bolognese!
Afternoon
Nick enjoys art, and today he is painting a beach scene from a recent family holiday. He adds the finishing touches and sets the painting aside to dry; so that he can take it home to share with his family.
While painting, Nick is learning how to express himself creatively and how to convey his ideas and emotions. Painting is also helping develop Nick’s hand eye coordination, finger, wrist and hand strength. Making marks on paper is important for self expression as well as later learning.
Morning
Daniela is almost five years old and can’t wait for today’s carpentry experience - she loves building things! Carpentry experiences allow Daniela and her friends to extend their learning through real-life experiences. While participating in carpentry, Daniela is learning to problem solve, experiment and predict. She is also improving her hand eye coordination, manipulative skills and muscular strength.
Lunch
Before Daniela sits down for lunch with her friends and educators, Daniela takes part in the centre’s sports program. Daniela loves sports. Sports helps Daniela improve her flexibility and strength (perfect for growing bodies!). Sports also allows her to practice different skills in a fun and engaging way.
Afternoon
Daniela is off to ‘big school’ next year and she can't wait to start! Daniela and her friends will be visiting the local primary school next week. In preparation for the visit, the class is creating a list of questions to ask the Principal and school children.

Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.
Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Meet the team
Hi my name is Ashlee, and I am the Centre Manager here at Great Beginnings Keysborough. I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2004 and started working Great Beginnings Keysborough in 2020. I hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. After high school I got a full-time traineeship at a community child care center where I completed my Diploma. After having both of my children and re-joining the work force I wanted to ensure my knowledge was as current as it could be, so I re-did my diploma. I then went on to lead classrooms of varying ages and also became an educational leader. I have been in centre manager roles since 2016.
From the age of ten years old I always knew my calling was to care for children. I originally wanted to be a midwife but was turned off by the nursing side of babies being born so began my career with older children, which was where I discovered my passion for educating and caring for valuable children who needed some extra love. This is when I discovered I would never have to “work” another day of my life. My real passion is the relationships you can build with children wo need someone to care for them. To see their little faces, light up when they arrive and see us here waiting for them with open arms, ensuring the families know how much their whole world is truly cared for.
All childcare centres, including our centre, use the foundation of play-based learning to guide our experiences every day. With access to a range of age-appropriate learning resources, trained educators, and new experiences among friends, we set children up to thrive in an environment that is dedicated to learning. Children develop their curiosity, problem-solving, confidence and resilience at our centre, and we carefully plan play-based learning experiences around their interests and learning goals. Over time, you will see your child develop abilities such as language, motor movement, memory, concentration, and social relationships all by partaking in these experiences - it's a truly incredible journey to witness!
Our team are a truly diverse group with a range of life experiences as individuals and also as a team. They have the same passion and vision to be the best they can for the children within their care. They are so committed and positive about their role as educators. The whole team sees their role as incredibly important, helping children establish the building blocks for a successful lifetime of learning.

At Great Beginnings Keysborough we have an open-door policy where we encourage families to be involved in the program. E.g sing songs/read stories in their home language. We also offer fruit and hot drinks to take for the journey at drop off times to make a smoother and quicker morning routine.
When enrolling my own children in childcare I found that having the same person who lead the tour, be there for orientation and the first day made our experience so much easier and that is the approach we follow. We also ensure that everything is written down as well as verbal. This gives families the opportunity to read through things, so they don’t feel overwhelmed after a tour.

Being a first time mum of a little man who was born very sick, leaving him in the care of others was always going to be a hard thing for me to do. From the first talks with the friendly and professional Ash, Banna and Janelle to the orientation and transition processes with the educators in my sons room....the whole start process was the perfect balance of what I needed. My son had a tricky start to care however the team in his room listened to everything I had asked, followed through and kept me posted on everything....the pictures and learning through the app is a perfect bonus! Now....my son has found his feet! Running into care, participating in activities, eating, sleeping and such a happy boy at pick up! To the educators in Room 3, thank you for all you have done and continue to do for my son and our family. My daughter started at Great Beginnings in the Nursery a couple of months ago and loves it! The staff have been wonderfully patient... My daughter started at Great Beginnings in the Nursery a couple of months ago and loves it! The staff have been wonderfully patient with her as she adjusts after being at home with Mum. To watch her speech develop and her thrive and become more independent has been a delight and to receive a update on how her day has been with photos has been lovely. Staff are always happy, welcoming and friendly, and we are greeted with a smile in the morning - you can tell they love what they do, and that's why we wouldn't put her anywhere else. A big thankyou to Ash and her team of dedicated educators, its such a relief to have her somewhere we know is providing the best care while myself and my husband work. And a special shoutout to Xin, Jerlene and Pang in the Nursery. To be greeted with a warm and friendly smile makes so much difference! Bad experience. My daughter started her day care last year 2023 in March. She was very happy at the very first but since... Bad experience. My daughter started her day care last year 2023 in March. She was very happy at the very first but since she changed her room , she comes home upset , hungry , diaper full. It’s 1 year now she still doesn’t eat in school I tried talking to other teachers regarding her feeding, I guess one of the teachers told me they got heaps of children to look after , apparently they don’t have time to feed my bub. I told her if once or twice you’d seat with her to eat she’d know. At home she seat with me for dinner. And she loves eating. I’m also doing her potty training at home but when I asked the teachers , they tell me she doesn’t talk but well she understands a lot of things now, if u teach once or twice. I sometime go early to pick her up she’s most of the time alone crying, iv never seen 1:1 with my bub and other teachers. When other kids are sitting down with story time . iv seen she’s offered food separately and she does something else. We both parents are upset about the incident that happen and they come to blame my daughter having dry skin because she came home with nails marks on her face and back. She don’t had long nails and she never scratched any of her body parts. They have so many kids in 1 room I guess that’s why , my daughter never got any attention! We wasted our time and money with them. They charged us extra last week with wrong $. Read more
