Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
You wouldn’t change your child for the world, but you would change the world for your child. That’s why when we welcome children and families to our SDN village, we create a place where every child belongs.
SDN is not-for-profit. Partnering our diverse range of professionals with families to provide the best learning opportunities is what sets us apart. Together, we create a village so that every day is a chance for your child to thrive.
At SDN we have 26 early education and care centres, Children's Therapies and Family support programs.
SDN is inclusive. We don’t just talk about inclusion, we do it. All our services welcome children from all communities, cultures and needs. Inclusion at SDN is delivered through our spaces, through our communication, through our food, through our educational program; it is inherent in all aspects of our village.
We see the whole child and know that children thrive when we support them to grow caring hearts, healthy bodies, and curious minds.

Programs
Programs
At SDN Owl's House, get more than school-ready, get life-ready.
Getting school-ready is a journey. It begins with your child’s very first day at our welcoming early education and care centre and continues with our dedicated preschool program.
Infants and toddlers
We know that the best thing we can do for your infant or toddler is to support them to grow and develop in safe, unhurried, nurturing and challenging environments. Because infants and toddlers are naturally curious, our centre has well-equipped indoor and outdoor areas that will keep your child moving and give them daily opportunities to explore their limits and grow their abilities.
Preschool
Developed by university-trained early childhood teachers, our preschool program focuses on the whole child. Children learn to make friends and work together, while gaining the skills and independence they need to thrive through the big transition to school.
Our preschool program follows an evidence-backed, play-based learning approach. Children have fun and follow their curiosity, while we weave in vital skills and learning outcomes.
SDN uses Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework to explore a diverse curriculum from science to social justice. Our days are predictable but flexible, blending structured and spontaneous learning, free play, movement and quiet time.
Our centre has a transition to school program where our teachers and educators work together with local schools to prepare your child for a smooth transition, and support families through the process.

Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
Following the establishment of the House at Pooh Corner (THPC) by the Student Guild in 1969, the UNSW Women’s Employment Strategy eventually welcomed the SDN Owl's House centre in 2013.
While the Owl's House location began as a part of the UNSW's Strategic Intent to create an environment supporting the development and wellbeing of children, UNSW announced the termination of its management in three centres, including Owl's House, in 2020. SDN successfully obtained management of the centres in 2021 and has been facilitating these safe and innovative spaces since.

Our family have had an outstanding experience with SDN Owl's house, it has be part of our family since our first one 5 years ago. As parents, the well-being and development of our kids are of utmost importance, and we are pleased to say that Owl's house has exceeded our expectations in every aspect. In the early days, like some of the other parents we have registered a few childcares(ELS), but in the end we settled at Owl's house, it was one of best decisions we have made. The culture and people they have cultivated and maintained are just what need for our kid's early earlys development. The management team and educators(Bethney, Julia, Migel, Lily, Sarah, apologies for not naming all of you here) are not only qualified professionals but also compassionate caregivers. It's evident that they genuinely care for the well-being of the kids and create a nurturing and supportive atmosphere. We are very sad to leave this big family as kids are ready for schools next year. But again we can't thank enough for the support and cares that your wonderful educators have provided to our kids for the last 5 years. Read more

Starting childcare for Oliver at a young age (9 months) was a nervous time for us as first time parents. The staff and management (Velly, Bethany, Lisa, et al.) really helped with the transition process, from getting Oliver used to the new environment to creating engaging day-long activities. What truly stands out is the personalised care Oliver receives. Velly took the time to understand Oliver's needs and preferences, creating a tailored routine that ensured our baby felt comfortable and happy every day. The facility is really clean with things like air purifiers in every room. The food is prepared by an onsite cook, which is always high quality and I often joke about Oliver eating better than I do. We wholeheartedly recommend SDN Owl House and their facility to any parents seeking high quality child care. Our experience has been nothing short than exceptional, and we look forward to continuing our journey with them. Dropping Oliver off in the morning and seeing him smile when he sees the educators is all a parent wants, thank you SDN Owl House for making such a positive impact on our family's life. Read more

From the first day that our son was in Owl's House Centre, to his last (family relocation), the educators made it feel like a home away from home. They showed our child with respect, love, boundaries, they helped him grow, improve and become the wonderful tiny human that he is today. From the bottom of our hearts, we can't thank you enough.
