Beacon Hill Community Kindergarten Centre overview
Beacon Hill Community Kindergarten (BHCK) is a not for profit community based preschool. The Centre is partially funded by the Department of Education and Communities and is operated on a not for profit basis with all revenue reinvested in the Kindergarten. BHCK is managed by the Teaching Director with the governance role taken by a Board of volunteer Directors from Kindergarten community.
The Centre is open from 8.15am until 3.45pm each day and operates according to school terms. The children bring their own morning tea, lunch and drink.
The children enrolled at BHCK go on to a variety of schools in the area depending on which is their local public school. BHCK provides transition to school support for all children regardless of the school they will attend.
Our program is based on the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the first ever national curriculum for early childhood. The ideals of children Being, Belonging and Becoming provide us with the framework on which to base our observations of the children. We believe that the greatest motivation is provided by offering the children choices that are based on the things they like doing or where they already have some skill or knowledge because they feel confident to engage and this enables them to grow and learn. It also empowers them to be co-constructors of the curriculum and to make well founded decisions and choices about their learning.

We chose Beacon Hill Community Kindergarten for our children because it's an amazing not-for-profit, community based centre. The teachers are experienced and dedicated, the majority of them have been working there for over 10 years and they plan their lessons from the interests of the children. Our children have loved playing in the playground, climbing the climbing tree, listening to stories, doing art, and watching tadpoles grow as well as silkworms, amongst other things. They enjoy their time at Kindy which makes us very happy parents. Read more

We chose to come to BHCK as we know our children's needs are always put first. The Pre-school came highly recommended to me by a few friends and upon our initial visit, I could see why. It’s the feeling you get when you walk through the gate. You are always welcomed with a smile and the children's individual interests play a vital role in the teachers planning of their day. All the children are given extra cuddles if they need it and always come home singing and talking about the fun activities they did throughout the day. They are cared for by their wonderful teachers and are provided with rich and meaningful learning opportunities every Kindy day. Our children want every day to be a Kindy day! Read more

Beacon Hill Community Kindergarten is an amazing not-for-profit Pre School. The children are nurtured and cared for in a fun and joyful environment. For us, it has been the teachers who have made our time with Beacon Hill Kindy memorable. The teachers are experienced, dedicated and professional which translates within the classroom to be an organised, controlled and targeted program. The Director is a tireless advocate for continuous improvement and encourages professional development of the staff. At the end of the year the children walk away with a personalised portfolio of their year at the kindy. Beacon Hill Community Kindergarten is a Pre School for parents who understand how important the years prior to starting school are for the confidence of your child and for setting them up for a lifetime of learning. Community based centre where all monies go back to the kindy (not for profit). One of the highest rated centres on the whole of the Northern Beaches. The teachers are lovely most having been there over 10 yrs. Operating significantly over the required staff ratio. They definitely are trust worthy and genuinely care for the little ones. I have had two children go through the kindy and benefit from what is a true Preschool experience (as opposed to Long Day Care). The growth and development of my little ones validated the decision to place them here. Being community based the parents get more involved and are able to give back (if so inclined). I have enjoyed being part of the Kindy board and highly recommend this centre as the perfect start for one or two years prior to schooling. Recently the word went out that places are available for 2016 (Vacancies). Read more
