Hello, my name is Shelley and my journey in the Early Childhood Education & Care Sector began in 2007, when I embarked on a traineeship with the goal of obtaining a certificate 3 and continued to invest into the Sector by studying a Bachelor of Early Education Degree.
Over the years, my passion for Early Education has only grown stronger, as I have had the privilege of working closely with young minds and witnessing their incredible growth and development. The first five years of a child’s life are crucial, and being a part of this period is both challenging and immensely rewarding.

One particular approach that has greatly influenced my practice is the Reggio Emilia approach, which was developed by Loris Malaguzzi. This approach places children at the centre of their own learning, recognising them as capable and competent individuals.

As an Early Childhood professional, I strive to empower children to learn through play, take risks, and develop a sense of agency. I believe in fostering an environment of respect and providing opportunities for children to explore and discover their interests. My teaching practices encompass the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, ensuring that children are active participants in their own learning journey.

I collaborate closely with families, recognising their invaluable role as their child’s first teacher. Building strong reciprocal relationships with children and families is a priority for me, and I actively seek feedback and value their input. I encourage families to be strong advocates for their child’s education and learning, as their involvement and support are crucial in creating a holistic and enriching experience.

I believe by establishing strong connections with children and the community is crucial for fostering a sense of belonging. By engaging in meaningful interactions with children and involving the community in the curriculum, educators can create a positive and inclusive learning environment. These connections can help children feel valued, respected, and supported, which can have a significant impact on their overall well-being and development.

Our inspired curriculum embraces a range of early childhood philosophies and proven teaching practices, in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework of Australia. Our major philosophical influences include, Reggio Emilia, Steiner, Montessori and Forest School programs.

Most importantly, your little learner will be safe within the care of our passionate and highly experienced educators who receive ongoing professional development and mentoring from industry leaders.

Bluebird’s extended curriculum is based upon proven research that supports the successful development of the whole child through activities that enhance cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative skills.

Each Studio designs a group program, which is based on current interest at the time. Various curriculum areas and expressive art mediums are integrated throughout our educational environments.  Children are also provided opportunity to investigate group projects throughout the terms.

Through a range of strategies, the teaching team support, extend and challenge children’s learning, thinking and development as they engage with new concepts, persist with difficulty and master new understandings. This process is important and offers insight into how each child approaches learning.

Documentation of learning is captured through individual learning stories, group learning stories and anecdotal assessments, which highlights the skills, knowledge and dispositions each individual child demonstrates.

Families have access to an online Individual Learning Journal for their child, which is a dedicated record of learning and development.  This can be accessed at any time during the year and shared with extended family members.

Our Learning Journals contain a collection of various assessments and documentation that reflects a child’s progress of development and learning. It provides evidence and samples of a child’s achievement throughout the year. For educators, Individual Learning Journals offer an opportunity to reflect on an individual child’s efforts and achievements over time. For children and families, Learning Journals enable them to be part of a collaborative approach where all contributions are welcomed and gain an insight and understanding your child’s learning.

Early childhood experts regard the Kindergarten or “Pre-school” stage as one of the most significant in terms of children’s cognitive, physical and emotional development. That is why we have developed the Bluebird Kindergarten program, dedicated to helping children excel during this pivotal year.

Our Kindergarten Program is lead by university- qualified early childhood teachers who specialise in teaching academic fundamentals within the framework of play-based enquiry.

We pride ourselves on delivering a world-class Kindergarten curriculum that focuses upon the development of academic competence, creative problem solving, decision-making skills, independence and a life-long passion for learning.

Set within long day-care hours, our 5-day program provides each child with an individually tailored program focused upon developing the skills for a success at school and well beyond.
