Swimming lessons are generally good, but the billing system is confusing and inconsistent.
Be aware that if your lesson falls on a public holiday or during a centre closure, you’ll still be charged, and no make-up class is automatically offered. You’re expected to submit an absence request and use one of your limited make-up tokens (only 8 per year), which feels unfair when those days are beyond your control. Most families prefer to save tokens for actual absences like illness or travel, especially since lessons continue during school holidays.
To make matters worse, staff seem unclear on the policy - I received three different answers:
- One said make-up tokens for public holidays are applied automatically (they weren’t).
- Another said we had to submit an absence request.
- The last said we didn’t need to do anything and wouldn’t be charged (we were).
hopefully, this is something the centre can review and improve

Absolutely unacceptable. On 30+ degree days there are ZERO swimming lanes! Why even call this a "swimming" pool? Surely Coburg Leisure center is violating health and safety standards by forcing anyone who wants to swim laps into a single lane like canned sardines. Complete disregard for patrons who want to do lap swimming, i.e the activity that the "swimming" pool was designed for in the first place. Worst swimming pool in the whole country, just avoid this place at all costs and just go to Brunswick baths. There should be a bare minimum of 3 swimming lanes open, Slow, Medium, Fast, putting everyone in a single lane so that there are 10+ people in there, some loafing around others trying to actually swim, is reprehensible.

Absolutely ridiculous. Most times we come to try and swim laps nearly every lane is being used for kids lessons and there is only one “swimming” lane that is filled with old people who only walk. No matter if it’s during the day or the evening, so when are people who work supposed to come and swim laps? Seems like the pools only prioritise schools and children, not swimmers who also pay for a membership to swim laps in the pool. There seems to be only very limited hours where all lanes are open which isn’t really fair or inclusive for people who work that are wanting to use the pool facilities. When confronting one of the receptionists about this, she just came across as rude which honestly makes me just want to cancel my membership as driving all the way to the pools to find out I can’t even swim is absolutely infuriating.
