About the Curriculum
About the Curriculum
“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber
Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years
Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.
Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years
Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.
On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.
Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.
Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years
Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.
The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.
Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.
Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Kindergarten year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.
Morning
Brianna is 11 months old and enjoys sensory play outside in the sandpit with her friends. She sits near her educator who helps teach her how to scoop the sand into the bucket. Brianna is learning how to dig, carry, and move the sand. She is also exploring texture and learning what happens to the sand when she adds water!
Lunch
Brianna has finished her lunch and is preparing to take a nap. Her educator changes her nappy, prepares a bottle and reads Brianna a story before her afternoon sleep.
Afternoon
Brianna and some of her nursery friends enjoy some story time and songs outside in the shaded garden. They read ‘Peepo’ which is Brianna’s favourite book.
Morning
Todd is two and a half years old and loves to start his day at the centre outside on the climbing equipment. His friends join him, and together they pretend to be pirates on a ship looking for treasure. Through this exciting dramatic play, Todd is learning about himself and the world around him. Dramatic play is helping Todd identify his interests, abilities, likes and dislikes.
Lunch
Todd is watering the vegetables in the garden. By doing this, Todd is learning the importance of growing and caring for the veggies in the garden. Todd picks a tomato from the garden, which the Chef will use to help make Todd and his friend’s lunch - Spaghetti Bolognese!
Afternoon
Todd enjoys art, and today he is painting a beach scene from a recent family holiday. He adds the finishing touches and sets the painting aside to dry; so that he can take it home to share with his family.
While painting, Todd is learning how to express himself creatively and how to convey his ideas and emotions. Painting is also helping develop Todd’s hand eye coordination, finger, wrist and hand strength. Making marks on paper is important for self expression as well as later learning.
Morning
Carly is almost five years old and can’t wait for today’s carpentry experience - she loves building things! Carpentry experiences allow Carly and her friends to extend their learning through real-life experiences. While participating in carpentry, Carly is learning to problem solve, experiment and predict. She is also improving her hand eye coordination, manipulative skills and muscular strength.
Lunch
Before Carly sits down for lunch with her friends and educators, Carly takes part in the centre’s sports program. Carly loves sports. Sports helps Carly improve her flexibility and strength (perfect for growing bodies!). Sports also allows her to practice different skills in a fun and engaging way.
Afternoon
Carly is off to ‘big school’ next year and she can't wait to start! Carly and her friends will be visiting the local primary school next week. In preparation for the visit, the class is creating a list of questions to ask the Principal and school children.
Health and Nutrition
Health and Nutrition
Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Hi my name is Natalie, and I am the Centre Manager here at Creative Garden Banyo. I started working in Early Education in 2003 and joined Creative Garden Banyo in 2021 as an assistant manager before becoming centre manager in 2023.
The biggest inspiration for my career path is the development of children’s learning. Seeing a child attending our centre from nursery through to school is so rewarding. As an Early years Educator, witnessing the growth of these children, is incredibly rewarding. The impact you make on young lives is both powerful and meaningful. I believe that every child is a unique story waiting to be written, and I consider it a privilege to help them discover their own narrative.
Children learn best when they believe that they can achieve. Our teachers and educators focus on supporting children to explore the curriculum confidently and make daily choices throughout the day. Early childhood education and care can help children make friends, develop good habits, build on their literacy and numeracy skills, and become emotionally resilient. Children also develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our Early Learning centre operates with the following core values; dedication, innovation, compassion, integrity and passion. This helps us guide children every day to be active happy learners. Reflecting and implementing these in our work, helps us navigate our journey at Creative Garden Banyo.
Some of our team at Creative Garden Banyo have been providing quality education and care in a safe and engaging environment for many years. We continually invite skilled diverse educators to join our team. We strive to excel and invite the best ideas from everyone. Majority of our educators live locally bringing a strong, positive and inclusive culture that promotes teamwork and respect for diversity. This has been our foundation in creating a family-like environment.
After completing a tour at our centre, I send a thank you email to the family who attended, from there I have a clear step by step process on how they would like to enrol their child. I also have an open-door policy if families have any questions they may need answered or even if they need help with enrolment forms, Child Care Subsidy, government caps, centre schedule and more. I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Our 1 year old Heidi has been going to Creative Garden, Banyo since July last year -she absolutely loves it! It’s the amazing carers - especially Sonam and Swati that make it as special as it is. Heidi jumps out of my arms and into their arms, happily waves “bye bye !” And her eyes beam with excitement when I drop her off. Sonam and Swati take incredible care in everything they do, the time they took to make us a folder of Heidi’s learning journey, and a Xmas bubble with a photo, Father’s Day picture for daddy. So special. Heidi eats well and when we’ve faced challenges such as struggling to have good naps or drinking her formula , Sonam works with us on solutions as if Heidi was her own. The photo updates with detail on how each activity develops skill sets for her age are awesome to read every evening. I get excited when I get notifications during the day to see pictures of Heidi playing and learning, always with a big smile on her face. I couldn’t be happier having Heidi in their care, on bigger days where she has to go early or be picked up late I feel at ease knowing Heidi is probably having more fun learning at daycare, then she would at home. Nat has been amazing at helping us with all the behind the scenes planning and is super accomodating. What I love most is when I bring Heidi into daycare, or pick her up, everyone says hello or bye to Heidi. Everyone who works there know all the kids by name and it’s such a welcoming environment. We were warned about daycare sickness for any new baby starting daycare, and Heidi has been healthy with only a handful of road bumps in the last 7 months, that’s a credit to the care the centre places on their hygiene processes. Thank you for making our experience with daycare for our baby girl, such a magical one! Read more

Your feedback motivates us to continue providing the best environment for all our children. Best regards, The Creative Garden Team
