Sparrow Early Learning Greenwood
Sparrow Early Learning Greenwood Centre overview
Welcome to Sparrow Early Learning Greenwood! We provide high quality early education and care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age in an inclusive, nurturing environment. We celebrate the diversity of our families and value the unique backgrounds, needs, interests, and cultural practices of each individual child to best support their feelings of belonging and wellbeing.
Inspired by Reggio Emilia philosophy and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, our wonderful educators provide a holistic, play-based curriculum that supports the individual needs of children and their families. Engaging, age-appropriate play spaces are carefully designed to stimulate curiosity, learning and imagination. Educators plan hands-on learning experiences reflective of real life, guiding children to learn through meaningful interactions with their peers and educators.
Indoor learning spaces feel just like home and are filled with materials and resources that come straight from nature and everyday life. Activities are largely open-ended to allow children to follow their interests, use their imagination and to stimulate social interactions. Outdoor spaces provide further opportunities for imaginative and collaborative play with children enjoying the unstructured open green spaces, quiet shady areas, climbing equipment and sandpits with water play, all linked by the much loved bike path and protected by shade sails.
We offer an integrated School Readiness Program including partnerships with local schools ensures our children are adequately prepared for a smooth transition to school.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our service should you wish to have a question answered or schedule a tour, we would love to hear from you and show you around!

Meet Sophia - Service Manager at Sparrow Early Learning Greenwood
“Hello, My name is Sophia. I have a diploma in early childhood education and care and a diploma in business management and leadership.
One thing that’s drawn me towards working with children is the beauty of watching them go through life. There is something magical about watching children reach their different milestones and going on a journey with them as they discover themselves. Over the past few years it has been a great joy of mine to watch and help different children grow, learn and make long lasting friendships in an environment that is nurturing. I started off my early childhood journey as a relief educator thereafter I was room leader in a nursery room then educational leader / room leader in a kindy room now my passions lie in the management of the centre, being a mentor to the team, creating a safe loving environment and quality care for children.
At Sparrow Greenwood our team is built of passionate, enthusiastic, compassionate and honest educators who strive to create a supportive, safe and secure environment for our children, families and community at large. Our calendar of events is filled with PJ days, dress up days, crazy hair day and incursions. As educators on a daily basis together with the children we laugh, sing, dance, create, cry, explore, learn, grow and make constant memories!
The team and I here at Sparrow Greenwood look forward to meeting you and your beautiful family."
About the curriculum
About the curriculum
“The Sparrow Way combines proven international early learning methods to create a unique and purposefully contemporary practice designed for today’s society. Guided by the principles of Reggio Emilia childcare and underpinned by The Early Years Framework for Australia, we embrace children’s inherent abilities to learn and develop, creating an environment for them to find solutions through exploration, discovery and invention, marveling in everything around them. The Sparrow Way is our method of working with children based on these beliefs and principles.”
- The Sparrow Early Education Team
The Sparrow curriculum is thoughtfully planned by our educators and shaped by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Being guided by the EYLF and National Quality Standards (NQS) ensures we offer high quality learning programs that are responsive to children’s ideas, interests, strengths and abilities.
Programs are play-based, child-driven and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach with a strong emphasis on nature and outdoor learning experiences. Educators carefully design environments that stimulate curiosity and provide opportunities for hands-on learning experiences that are reflective of real life.
Play is viewed as a powerful tool for children to explore, discover and make meaning of the world around them. Activities are largely open-ended, providing a wide variety of natural resources and materials which stimulate imagination and foster creativity, problem-solving and meaningful interactions with friends and educators.
Children are encouraged to express themselves through various mediums, such as art, music and dramatic play, allowing them to develop a deep sense of autonomy, confidence and joy in their learning journey.
Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
The Sparrow team values the role of families as children’s most important teachers and our educators foster positive and collaborative relationships with families. Parents are encouraged to contribute their ideas for programming, learning activities and the overall operation of the service.
Our inclusive open-door policy welcomes parents to visit our service, engage in discussions with educators and participate in children's learning. Our educators maintain open and continuous communication with families, ensuring a strong connection between the children's home learning environment and their educational experiences at the centre. During pick-up and drop-off times, educators are readily available to engage with families and gladly share insights into the children's progress, well-being and participation.
The use of the Storypark communication app provides daily updates, photos, and videos, fostering regular connections between educators and families. Parents also receive frequent communication through emails, newsletters, displays, notices, information evenings, special events, and Facebook.

- Transition to School program including school visits & transition reports
Sparrow Early Learning centres provide high quality kindy programs led by qualified Early Childhood Teachers. While the curriculum remains play-based, these programs follow a more structured approach to teaching and learning experiences to prepare children for transitioning into a primary school environment. There is a careful balance maintained between child-led and teacher-led learning activities.
Our Early Childhood Teachers cater to the individual needs of each child and in collaboration with parents, ensure that children are adequately equipped with the skills and experience required for a smooth transition to “big school”. Ongoing assessment of children’s progress and development is carefully documented and communicated with families and transition statements can be shared with future schools to facilitate a smooth transition to school.
Attending kindy at their familiar Sparrow Early Learning centre makes the transition from the long day care setting less intimidating and children can continue their early learning journey in a safe and familiar environment, surrounded by friends and familiar educators. It also means families can enjoy the flexibility of extended care hours and continued care during school holiday periods. All meals and snacks are provided, adding to the convenience for busy families.

I called the centre to confirm they had the days I needed from the date I needed and they said they did. I booked a tour and again at the tour confirmed they had the days I needed from the date I needed. I went to enjoy my child and was told they had no availability for 3 months after the date I needed. I don't understand why they would waste mine and their time and lie to me twice about the availability. Very unhappy with how I have been treated. Read more

There's alot more better options in the locality. We sent my one niece a few years ago, started well. Then in the toddler and kindy room she was constantly bitten, unprovoked. Lack of supervision from staff, especially on serial biters. Then a few years later, we thought we'll send my nephew as we already knew most of the educators and enjoyed the familiarity. But! Moved him after 8 months. In that time he was bitten 3 times!!! - lack of supervision on 1year olds, crazy! - having 1-3 years olds in same play area, crazy! Especially with lack of supervision. Moved him straight away, and it was the best decision ever. Read more

I have such positive reviews for this amazing learning centre. The educators are so passionate. The educators are always so warm and welcoming not only providing outstanding care to the Children but always offering support and kindness to myself. Sophie the coordinator has been so accommodating with changes and is able to collaborate with different agencies and put in place the planning needed for my Grandaughter Instantly. The language and knowledge my Grandaughter has developed is quite amazing. She is really able to articulate and describe the positive experiences she has had that day. My Grandaughter has actually turned into a little chippy. Showing a love for tools, nails and hammer. The taking apart of old computers was a great idea. The meals that are provided are fantastic. The smell when entering the centre is amazing. Claire the lovely chef always sends a takeaway lunch home if my Grandaughter is collected early. My Granddaughter eats the food without hesitation. I have tasted the leftovers (if any) they are delicious, that’s why I call Claire a chef (not a cook). Claire is so kind. Claire saves food for my Grandaughter if she has missed out. I have had many years in early education. My choice in Sparrow Greenwood was guided by how well the tour of the centre was conducted. Every thing was explained thoroughly and all the educators were so lovely and engaging with my Grandaughter. I was impressed with the ranges of different experiences provided to the children. We definitely made the correct choice.😊 Read more
