About the curriculum
About the curriculum
“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber
Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years
Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!
Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years
Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.
On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.
Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.
Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years
Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.
The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.
Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.
Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.
Morning
Ellie is 11 months old and enjoys sensory play outside in the sandpit with her friends. She sits near her educator who helps teach her how to scoop the sand into the bucket. Ellie is learning how to dig, carry, and move the sand. She is also exploring texture and learning what happens to the sand when she adds water!
Lunch
Ellie has finished her lunch and is preparing to take a nap. Her educator changes her nappy, prepares a bottle and reads Ellie a story before her afternoon sleep.
Afternoon
Ellie and some of her nursery friends enjoy some story time and songs outside in the shaded garden. They read ‘Peepo’ which is Ellie’s favourite book.
Morning
Josh is two and a half years old and loves to start his day at the centre outside on the climbing equipment. His friends join him, and together they pretend to be pirates on a ship looking for treasure. Through this exciting dramatic play, Josh is learning about himself and the world around him. Dramatic play is helping Josh identify his interests, abilities, likes and dislikes.
Lunch
Josh is watering the vegetables in the garden. By doing this, Josh is learning the importance of growing and caring for the veggies in the garden. Josh picks a tomato from the garden, which the Chef will use to help make Josh and his friend’s lunch - Spaghetti Bolognese!
Afternoon
Josh enjoys art, and today he is painting a beach scene from a recent family holiday. He adds the finishing touches and sets the painting aside to dry; so that he can take it home to share with his family.
While painting, Josh is learning how to express himself creatively and how to convey his ideas and emotions. Painting is also helping develop Josh’s hand eye coordination, finger, wrist and hand strength. Making marks on paper is important for self expression as well as later learning.
Morning
Charlotte is almost five years old and can’t wait for today’s carpentry experience - she loves building things! Carpentry experiences allow Charlotte and her friends to extend their learning through real-life experiences. While participating in carpentry, Charlotte is learning to problem solve, experiment and predict. She is also improving her hand eye coordination, manipulative skills and muscular strength.
Lunch
Before Charlotte sits down for lunch with her friends and educators, Charlotte takes part in the centre’s sports program. Charlotte loves sports. Sports helps Charlotte improve her flexibility and strength (perfect for growing bodies!). Sports also allows her to practice different skills in a fun and engaging way.
Afternoon
Charlotte is off to ‘big school’ next year and she can't wait to start! Charlotte and her friends will be visiting the local primary school next week. In preparation for the visit, the class is creating a list of questions to ask the Principal and school children.
Health and Nutrition
Health and Nutrition
Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.
Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Louise, and I am the Centre Manager here at Community Kids Melton. I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2001 and started working at Community Kids Melton in January 2021. I hold a Diploma in Children’s Services. I have worked in Childcare since I was 18. I moved to London in 2015 to work as a nanny and in child care centres overseas and have been back in Australia since 2016. I like to understand how the cogs work behind the wheels, so I have always worked in both rooms and the office. I have been Assistant Centre Manager for 3.5 years at another Community Kids centre. I enjoy watching children’s personalities grow and develop individually. No two days are the same.
At our centre, we show the families examples of outcomes of the children’s learning. The centre is a blank canvas for educators to display what it is the children are learning throughout their time in an early education setting. Kinder children are currently learning about our land and the original owners of the land through multiple experiences. Sustainability is modeled throughout the centre with a shared recycling centre for families to donate resources for re-using.
The team is extremely welcoming and helpful with the transitioning of new children in our centre. There is a large multicultural team at the centre, across all ages and life experience to ensure families within our community feel welcomed and represented. We take safety and security in our centre very seriously. We practice safety measures by understanding the policies and procedures of the centre and holding each other accountable throughout the day’s practices. My Child protection statement reads: “I will ensure every child has a voice and feels safe and valued in our environment.”
Families are encouraged to bring their children for as many orientations as required so they ultimately feel comfortable leaving them in our care. We ensure they are welcomed into the centre and that they and their child feel like they belong. Educators engage with the families and their children to ensure they learn as much as possible throughout the orientation process.
We provide morning tea/breakfasts throughout the year so families can spend more time settling their children into their day. Parents are encouraged to address any queries or concerns they may have throughout their time at the centre.
I make them feel comfortable by showing myself to be relatable, making them laugh and relax when they first enter. I draw on my own experience as a first-time mother to ensure I give them easily understandable information, and clear directions to get set up with the centre. I run through the important aspects of the enrolment form and show them how to find the information required through step-by-step instruction guides.
Fun fact about me is, I have played the flute since I was 11. I have a 2-year-old and two very energetic staffies.
I look forward to welcoming your family to .

I have be apart of the CK community for 2 years and from day one each and every staff are so welcoming, friendly and they just adore my little one. From healthy food served daily. To fun activities and opportunities given to the children this day care is a wonderful community. I did orientation a few times a week for a couple of weeks as my LO was a very shy child. They have helped him adjust and are so encouraging to help him find his way. He now runs in holding his bag excited to go to day care. What I love most about CK is that there isn’t a high turn over of staff, each staff member knows all the children. Everyone always greets you in the madness of the morning drop off rush and they’re always up for a good chat. Highly recommend ✨ Read more

They are amazing in every way possible, my daughter absolutely loves and adores going here and cannot wait to always go back to see the amazing educators and the little friends she has made along the way. My first thoughts when choosing this place was it felt like home, greeted with smiles and warmth from day one by the amazing Zaki(one of the amazing educators here), the activities and care they take with your child. The food by the amazing chef always leaves my daughter coming home full and happy, the educators really treat your child like their own and it’s so hard to find somewhere where you can trust leaving your child. All I can say is you definitely want your child enrolled at this childcare/kinder, absolutely no regrets and you will always leave with a smile on your face. Read more
