Health and Nutrition
Fresh, seasonal ingredients
Here at Future Foodies, we’re passionate about fresh, seasonal ingredients. Fresh produce is way healthier and provides superior nutrition for growing children. Fresh produce also tastes yummier, as well as being better for the environment and our local communities. You just can’t beat it!
Nutrition plays a vital role in a child’s development and instilling healthy eating habits at a young age can have lifelong benefits. But food is about so much more than just nutrition. That’s why we have created Future Foodies: A holistic food programme at the heart of every Journey Early Learning Centre.
Future Foodies at a glance:
• Menus specially developed by our experienced nutritionist
• Fresh, seasonal and wholesome produce
• Expanding children’s paletes with herbs and spices
• Feedback from children and chefs is actively incorporated into menus
• Custom menus adapted to individual needs (allergies, intolerances)
• Holistic approach to food
• Food is part of the curriculum and integrated into play based learning
Future Foodies Philosophy
Here at Future Foodies we’re on a mission to get children excited about food. Educating them about the entire food process, from planting through to composting. Encouraging them to be adventurous with exciting new flavours and textures. Reminding them that occasional treats are to be enjoyed. It’s not all broccoli birthday cakes. Bringing them together to share not only meals, but also jokes, stories and tall tales. Demonstrating that food is a wonderful gift to savour, enjoy and celebrate. From the very first bite to seconds (and thirds), our role is to instil a passion for food that will last a lifetime. In so doing we’re helping create the next generation of Future Foodies.

Here at Journey Dakabin, we believe in the power of play to help children develop important skills and knowledge. One of the activities our little learners love is playing with a basketball hoop and ball! Not only is it fun, but it also helps them grow in many ways, aligning with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). 🎯 Physical Development: As they shoot the ball, they work on their coordination, balance, and motor skills. Catching, throwing, and aiming all require focus and control, helping children strengthen their physical abilities. 🧠 Cognitive Skills: This simple activity encourages problem-solving as children experiment with different ways to make the ball go through the hoop. They start to understand concepts like distance, force, and even teamwork when playing in groups. 💬 Communication & Social Skills: Whether playing solo or with friends, children are constantly engaging with others, practicing turn-taking, following rules, and expressing their ideas and excitement. 🌱 Self-Confidence: Scoring a basket or improving their aim boosts their sense of accomplishment, fostering self-esteem and the courage to try new things. Through play, we nurture the development of confidence, communication, and cognitive skills — key areas of the EYLF, where children are encouraged to be confident and involved learners, and develop a strong sense of identity and wellbeing. What fun activities do your children love to do to learn through play? Share in the comments! 👇 #EYLF #LearningThroughPlay #BasketballFun #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #ConfidentLearners #CAREFORKIDS

National Simultaneous Storytime 2024. 📚 Our kindergarten children headed to the Indooroopilly Library at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre to listen to the story, Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. 🐦 This lyrical story follows the journey of a bowerbird on his quest for all things blue, all the while feeling that something is amiss in his life. The bowerbird's collection dominated by plastic caps, straws and tags invites reflection on environmental pollution and its challenges. #careforkids
