KU Phillip Park Children's Centre overview
Welcome to KU Phillip Park Chrildren's Centre!
At KU Phillip Park, we see childhood as a time of playful possibility, where children become imagined explorers, discoverers and inventors as they act upon their natural curiosities to learn through questions and be in relationship with others. We also believe as children respond to the world around them, we can better support them to become all they desire to be, by sparking in them a love for lifelong learning.
Our education programs illustrate our professional commitment to inquiry and interest based teaching and learning. Educators respond to the individual needs, interests and experiences of each child. We also value opportunities to promote social skills and positive interactions between children by creating small group learning initiated from children’s shared interests and thinking. In facilitating social, emotional and physical development through social settings, we are able to build upon their confidence, self-esteem and resilience.
Our programs are founded upon the belief that children learn best in settings where they feel safe, secure and loved. It is through relational play that the infant and toddler aged child begins to make sense of the wider world of relationships, especially with significant others beyond their home and family.
Our learning environment is constantly changing to respond to the children’s play ideas, needs, interests, and projects that they are involved in on a daily basis. We regularly set up curriculum areas that promote music, art, active movement, dance, dramatic play, cooking, puppetry, water and sand play, construction, science and technology, to extend children’s current interests.

What the parents say

What the parents say
“Having watched my three children grow and excel through play based learning, I will be saddened when the time comes for our boys to move onto ‘big school’. The boys enjoy their days at the centre and have developed strong relationships with their peers and educators.”
KU Phillip Park parent
"The team at KU Phillip Park are as devoted to our children's emotional and physical development as we are as their parents. We know that the educators there care for our children in a way beyond being an Educator. They see our children as individuals and acknowledge that they need to be supported on a variety of levels in different ways. Those ways include love, affection, laughter, inquisitiveness and encouragement. "Thank you" isn't enough to show them that we appreciate all that they do for our children."

Centre philosophy

Centre philosophy
Childhood
We recognise childhood as a special time in itself; a time for all children to be immersed in secure and trusting environments that allow them to explore, play, discover and learn. We nurture the development of identity, confidence and capability which form the foundations of a lifelong love of learning. We ensure the voices of children contribute to the work that we do and the decisions we make.
Integrity & Relationships
We act with honesty, openness and consistency. Our relationships are respectful, mutual and reciprocal and are built on trust, authenticity and ethical behaviour. We welcome feedback and make decisions that are responsible and fair.
Leadership
We are driven by the passionate pursuit of quality early childhood education and encourage others to share that journey. We lead by example, drawing on our experience and knowledge to shape early childhood education thinking, policy and practice.
Innovation
We have the courage to pursue bold visions of the future. We are committed to continual professional learning and organisational development. We collaborate and explore new ideas and different ways of thinking.
Sustainability
We acknowledge and consider both our heritage and our future. We embrace our responsibilities within the world around us – to our children and communities, our people, our environments and the long term sustainability of our organisation.
Diversity & Inclusion
We recognise that everyone has their own culture, beliefs, values and strengths contributing to our rich and diverse community. We embrace, advocate for, and invest in the rights of all children to access and actively participate in our programs and have a sense of truly belonging.
Programs

Programs
The KU program provides the children with a range of different activities and experiences to support their learning. From gardening to arts and crafts, music, movement and literacy, numeracy and scientific concepts, the program helps to build the children’s confidence as capable and active learners.
The program at KU Phillip Park Children’s Centre also includes regular walks, outings and community excursions. The children visit places like The Australian Museum, Botanical Gardens, local businesses and restaurants. This helps to extend the children’s perspective and feeds their natural curiosity.
About the curriculum

About the curriculum
The KU curriculum includes a mix of large and small group experiences that help to build the children’s leadership and communication skills. Through interactive and hands-on activities, the children develop a sense of their unique selves and a feeling of belonging.
The curriculum aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework and the preschool program helps to prepare the children for the transition to school. The educators invite participation, research, inquiry and exploration from the children so they can drive their own learning and develop important critical thinking skills.

Our son started in the baby room and is now in the pre-school room. During our time at KU Phillip Park we have felt our son has been supported to grow and learn with the help of the lovely team of educators. We feel his interests are explored and his curiosity encouraged. Could not recommend the centre more highly. Read more
