About the Curriculum
About the Curriculum
“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber
Nursery Space: 12 months – 2 years
Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!
Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years
Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.
On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.
Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.
Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years
Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.
The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.
Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.
Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.
Morning
Anita is 12 months old and enjoys sensory play outside in the sandpit with her friends. She sits near her educator who helps teach her how to scoop the sand into the bucket. Anita is learning how to dig, carry, and move the sand. She is also exploring texture and learning what happens to the sand when she adds water!
Lunch
Anita has finished her lunch and is preparing to take a nap. Her educator changes her nappy, prepares a bottle and reads Anita a story before her afternoon sleep.
Afternoon
Anita and some of her nursery friends enjoy some story time and songs outside in the shaded garden. They read ‘Peepo’ which is Anita’s favourite book.
Morning
Luca is two and a half years old and loves to start his day at the centre outside on the climbing equipment. His friends join him, and together they pretend to be pirates on a ship looking for treasure. Through this exciting dramatic play, Luca is learning about himself and the world around him. Dramatic play is helping Luca identify his interests, abilities, likes and dislikes.
Lunch
Luca is watering the vegetables in the garden. By doing this, Luca is learning the importance of growing and caring for the veggies in the garden. Luca picks a tomato from the garden, which the Chef will use to help make Luca and his friend’s lunch - Spaghetti Bolognese!
Afternoon
Luca enjoys art, and today he is painting a beach scene from a recent family holiday. He adds the finishing touches and sets the painting aside to dry; so that he can take it home to share with his family.
While painting, Luca is learning how to express himself creatively and how to convey his ideas and emotions. Painting is also helping develop Luca’s hand eye coordination, finger, wrist and hand strength. Making marks on paper is important for self expression as well as later learning.
Morning
Ava is almost five years old and can’t wait for today’s carpentry experience - she loves building things! Carpentry experiences allow Ava and her friends to extend their learning through real-life experiences. While participating in carpentry, Ava is learning to problem solve, experiment and predict. She is also improving her hand eye coordination, manipulative skills and muscular strength.
Lunch
Before Ava sits down for lunch with her friends and educators, Ava takes part in the centre’s sports program. Ava loves sports. Sports helps Ava improve her flexibility and strength (perfect for growing bodies!). Sports also allows her to practice different skills in a fun and engaging way.
Afternoon
Ava is off to ‘big school’ next year and she can't wait to start! Ava and her friends will be visiting the local primary school next week. In preparation for the visit, the class is creating a list of questions to ask the Principal and school children.
Health and Nutrition
Health and Nutrition
Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.
Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hello, my name is Maria. I began my career in early childhood education in 2012. I have a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, and a Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five).
My journey started at in 2016 as the Early Childhood Teacher, the Educational Leader and 2IC. From 2021, I was lucky enough to lead the Algester team as Centre Manager.
During my ten years of experience in early childhood, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing colleagues, leaders and mentors. My role is important as I am growing little minds and helping to shape our future leaders. The fact that I get to share laughter, investigations, and curiosities with children on an everyday basis makes this role incredibly rewarding.
As an early childhood educator, I have learnt that it is okay to slow down with children and engage in the beautiful moments. Children need to feel safe and secure around you to be able to gain the most out of their learning, especially in the early years. I believe once an educator builds that secure relationship, effective learning and development will occur naturally.
There are many learning benefits of attending a dedicated early childhood education and care centre compared to learning at home. A child’s brain grows at 90% before they reach the age of five. Children absorb so much learning early on in their life. It is important to offer children the opportunity to be in an early childhood setting, where they can gain and develop important life skills.
The team at Algester are dedicated, nurturing, and have extensive knowledge about early childhood. We are also lucky enough to have a diverse team where we embrace different cultures and languages, including Khmer, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, and Punjabi. Their backgrounds are incredibly valuable for the children in our community.
Open, honest and effective communication is the key to building relationships with our families. We offer stay and plays before children’s first days and ensure that families get insight on what their child is learning on an everyday basis.
I look forward to welcoming you to .

I have been meaning to do this review for quite some time as I have been very happy with the ladies at World of Learning Algester. My daughter had been to two centres previously and I could really tell the difference. Maria the centre manager is extremely involved in all aspects of the centre and she is so warm and approachable. My daughter loves all the ladies in her class (too many amazing ladies to name) including their wonderful cook who goes above and beyond for my picky toddler. The room leader Tracy is also a favourite who seems to be an expert in toddlers and babies! Tracy is so attentive to every child, and I love her warm and calm presence. I also appreciate how communicative the educators and Maria are. We always know what is happening in the centre and what to look forward to. Any time anything has ever been misplaced, it is back to me the next day. They are extremely organised and prompt. I love how they take the time to get to know the children individually and you can really see the love they have for the children. My partner and I appreciate the effort and care they place into looking after our child. They have the most important job in the world, which is to look after our children and they are excelling at it. Read more

Our experience with Algester WOL has been exceptional since our son started attending in mid- 2022.After a challenging initial placement at another centre where he struggled to settle, we found Algester WOL, and it has been a transformative experience for him. The highly skilled and passionate educators have built a strong connection with our son, fostering a sense of trust and safety. The positive learning environment that includes a variety of play & learning activities has helped our son to flourish in his language, social, emotional, and play skills, creativity and developing strong peer connections. The outdoor play area is fantastic. He eagerly looks forward to spending time there, which speaks volumes about how well the centre caters to the children's needs. The transition between classes has also been seamless with the help of his educators. The Centre Manager and staff are excellent communicators, keeping us well-informed through regular updates through the app , emails & newsletters. We highly recommend Algester WOL to any parent concerned about finding a nurturing and effective daycare environment for their child. This centre is making such a positive impact on our son's early years! Read more
