About the Curriculum
North Star collaborates with FinlandWay®, a renowned curriculum provider from Finland, to deliver all of our educational frameworks. This partnership allows your child the opportunity of being exposed to Finland’s globally acclaimed early education system, which is firmly grounded in university-supported research.
Distinguishing itself from nearly all other childcare centres in Australia, North Star offers an intricate daily learning curriculum meticulously crafted by authentic education scientists and early childhood experts. This curriculum remains consistently updated with the most recent research findings. Through a play-based approach, your child’s educational journey becomes a joyful and natural experience.
Our daily plans cover progressive, age-specific learning targets from six weeks to six years of age. We follow and implement the Learning Outcomes, Practices and Principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) alongside the 5 Learning Areas of the FinlandWay Education Model – The World of Languages, Exploration and the Environment, Art and Creative Expression, Physical and Mental Wellbeing and Social Skills. This supports comprehensive development, learning goals and well-being in all elements of a child’s early learning journey. See below to see the additional learning your child will encounter.
Individual Learning Portfolios
North Star’s curriculum is tailored to each child’s unique development pace, with individual learning portfolios documenting progress and goals. These portfolios are reviewed regularly with families, ensuring that each child’s needs are met in line with our bespoke curriculum, including for those with special educational requirements.
Daily Highlights
Parents can stay connected to their child’s day through the StoryPark app, which shares daily highlights, photos, reflections, and updates. This platform allows direct communication with educators, creating a transparent and interactive connection between home and centre.
Supporting Your Child’s Progress
Every seven weeks, parents receive a comprehensive report with observations, recommendations, and support strategies tailored to each child. Educators use these reports to adjust classroom plans and communicate insights during parents’ evenings, fostering collaborative support for every child’s growth.
Well-being Program
North Star offers a well-being program for children, parents, and staff, providing regular evening lectures on essential topics like sleep training, multilingual family dynamics, and First Aid for children. These sessions aim to support the entire community in creating a healthy, balanced environment.
Weekly Reflections
At the end of each week, your child’s key educator reflects on their learning journey, preparing a summary to share with you. This provides valuable insight into your child’s experiences and ways to support their development at home, helping you stay actively involved in their early education.
