Hi Ariel, were sorry that your child didn’t settle in well at our centre and your experience didn’t meet your expectations. For other readers context, the circumstances leading to this was our centre director (who has more than 20 years experience helping children settle) contacted the parents about their child not settling and seeking to partner with parents in how to help the child better settle at our centre. Prior to this the parents had aired various grievances with us. The next day one of the parents displayed aggressive conduct towards both our room leader and centre director. As a result we cancelled care for the day, removing the booking so that the parent would not be charged, requesting a meeting at a latter date. Instead, the parent returned later that morning with the other parent and one other person to continue to argue. The other parent then came a third time, arguing with centre owner before saying she would ‘call the police’ (we don’t know why and haven’t heard from the police) before leaving. The parents later withdrew, as a gesture of goodwill we halved our notice period. Our centre does have a two-week bond, mostly, sadly because of experience like these with a minority of families. We understand that starting care can be difficult for parents and that the childcare environment is different to the home environment and emotions can run high. Whilst we don’t agree with the complains made, we reported this complaint to our regulator to be transparent. Our regulator advised us verbally that they did not think there were grounds to the complaint and no further action has been taken. We note that the parents have claimed that within five days of withdrawing from our centre the child is settling well at another centre. Based on the commonly accepted early childhood theory and practice (Attachment Theory) this is very unlikely for a child of this age.
