Mama Bear Child Care Centre
Mama Bear Child Care Centre overview
Welcome to Mama Bear Childcare!
A Family owned and operated Christian Child Care Centre for infants from 0-5 years
We believe that all children are special, individual, precious gifts from God.
With the increasing demand of care for 0-2yr olds in the area, Con & Dora Savva opened Mama BearChildCare Centre in January 2009. Mama Bear is our first centre which caters for babies and is licensed for 40 children per day, between the ages of 0yrs-5yrs. We are open 7.30am-6pm approx. 50 weeks/year, closing at no charge to families over the Christmas/New Years period.
- Bear ChildCare Bus Excursions: the centre has its very own excursion bus that improves learning opportunities for the older children by taking them on excursions to stimulate their creative minds. Excursions include visiting a local aged care facility, local parks, Bunnings, the library or supermarket. The children love using the centre's bus to explore further afield.
- Sustainability program: includes activities such as gardening, worm farms, compost bins, recycling, Return & Earn program and major recycling projects.
- Incursions: children enjoy experiences such as chicken hatching, reptile shows, and Indigenous presentations.
- Cooking experiences: the children help with meal prep, collecting ingredients from the veggie garden, and enjoying demonstrations from the centre cook.
- School readiness program: preparing children for formal education, working closely with families and local schools.
- Munch & Move program: focuses on fresh, nutritious food for the children, as well as an outdoor physical developmental program.
Mama Bear is an air-conditioned building with security intercom for parental access.

About the curriculum
About the curriculum
8 weeks - 2 years
Educators work with the children to assist them to achieve their developmental milestones. A separate sleeping area is available for rest times. The shady outdoor space ensures the little ones get plenty of fresh air.
Teddy Bears 2 - 3 years
These children are split into two groups to allow the interest based program to best suit their needs. The children have plenty of equipment to suit their age, and educators are on hand to guide them. They enjoy outdoor play, where their educators encourage them to take part in the varied activities.
Cubby Bears 3 - 4 years
These children enjoy more challenging activities and outdoor fun, with the educators designing the program to suit their age and levels. Educators have a group of children that they are focused on, allowing them to offer individual attention. Outside, lots of fun is enjoyed on the shaded play equipment.
4 - 5 years
The children in this room are focused on school readiness to prepare them for primary school. Equipment and activities are designed to meet the needs of these older children, offering them opportunities that are both challenging and interesting. Children love their regular excursions, designed to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Health & nutrition
Health & nutrition
All of the nutritious meals and snacks are prepared in house daily, following a menu approved by the NSW Department of Health’s Munch & Move program. As a Christian service, the centre celebrates festivities such as Easter and Christmas, and a Prayer of Grace is said before lunch.
The centre cooks prepare everything from scratch, such as chicken stock, fresh rich bolognese sauce, and the fruit and vegetable purees for the younger ones. Children all bring in a piece of fruit or a vegetable to put in the basket in the foyer, to share with their friends as they learn to contribute to their community.
The children are all seated at the table with an educator and are encouraged to talk about their meal items. The children self-serve their meals, with the educators eating with the children to role-model healthy eating and manners. The children are also then responsible for clearing their plates in preparation for compost and worm farms.
Some of the children’s favourite meals include shepherds pie, chickpea vegetable stew, chicken stir fry hokkien noodles, spinach and feta spanakopita and fish cakes with broccoli, cauliflower and sweet peas.

Programs
Morning
Evie is eleven months old and today is helping her educators plant some seedlings in the vegetable garden.
Lunch
Evie doesn’t need a nap today, so she is enjoying some quiet activities with her educators. She finds some puzzles and books that she wants to try out.
Afternoon
After lunch the children head outside for some fresh air and playtime. Evie and her friends have fun in the sandpit, making pretend cakes in the muffin trays.
Morning
Oliver is two years old and starts his day outside on the play equipment. He walks along the balance beam before playing chase in the cubby house with his friends.
Lunch
Oliver loves to be helpful, so today he is picking some fresh carrots and berries from the veggie garden for the chef to use in their lunch.
Afternoon
The educators have set up some loose-parts play for the children, so Oliver is engrossed in the selection of shells and stones that are laid out. He is sorting them into groups by colour, and then plans to use them in a counting game with his friends.
Morning
Matilda is four years old and is jumping on the BearChildCare Bus for her excursion to the supermarket. The children are learning about making shopping lists and buying ingredients to cook with.
Lunch
Matilda is working on an art project using all recycled materials. She has been collecting milk bottle lids and is using them to make a huge collage of an underwater scene.
Afternoon
Matilda looks forward to her yoga lessons. Her balancing has really improved and she loves the quiet time these skills teach her.
