About the Curriculum
About the Curriculum
At Where We Grow, we offer thoughtfully designed spaces tailored to meet the emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of children at various stages of development. These spaces include our Nursery, Toddler, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten areas, each providing ongoing opportunities for exploration, investigation, and growth.
Children are encouraged to transition through these stages as they build confidence and readiness, ensuring their unique personalities and abilities are respected and celebrated. This supportive progression fosters a sense of security and accomplishment for both children and their families, while maintaining our commitment to individualized care and learning.
Nursery
Our Nursery Room is a language rich environment as our educators communicate constantly with their children. It is an expressive and safe environment where art and aesthetic motion are joyfully encouraged. Our educators utilise caringly the Circle of Security within the Nursery and allow that circle to grow naturally larger in proportion to each child’s growing social confidence.
At this stage of development, children have a vague comprehension of what and who, our educators now invite them to ask why and how. We encourage a range of self-help skills like serving their own meals, dressing and undressing, and toileting.
We are also encouraging vocal initiations and ideas to be shared forward. Ideas that will impact not only the child offering the suggestion but also others who may enjoy the sharing of that idea. Here is where we begin to see more obvious examples of child directed learning and exploration. These examples are given form through artistic explanations, photographic journals and curriculum input.
Our toddlers are provided with hot nutritious meals from paddock to plate, tailored sleep routines and nappies.
Within our Pre-Kinder Room we are beginning to see social attachments form between our children, which lead to the sharing of perspectives and the shaping of new understandings and ideas. This is the beginning of building a sense of responsibility and interdependence.
The Pre-Kinder Room is also an opportunity for our children to explore longer term investigations. By instilling a sense of curiosity and wonder, we have in our midst very capable learners. These learners are more than ready to examine the world around them more intimately.
Our Pre-Kinder children are provided with hot nutritious meals and regularly participate in incursions and excursions. We also have yoga, karate and computer classes.
We are an approved provider of the Victorian Government’s Kindergarten program which is taught by our passionate Early Childhood Teachers. Our extensive school readiness program provides children with core skills for the transition to Primary School. At this stage of a child’s development, we can begin to introduce concepts, theories, processes and cycles. The possibility of deeper comprehension begins to reveal itself at this stage of a child’s development and it is the responsibility of the educator to ensure that curiosity is nurtured so that it may continue to grow.
It is the aim of our educators to ensure that our children graduate with the surety of self that will enable them to explore new friendships, impact their new environments and remain active in their ongoing development. Programs
Programs
The centre is designed to encourage play-based learning, which supports the children in developing their interests, strengths and abilities. The educators focus on teaching the children to create a sustainable future, by using environmentally friendly resources and embedding sustainable practices in the program. The children learn about recycling and up-cycling resources, energy efficiency, water conservation, composting, gardening and caring for animals. The educators extend this by offering a nature play based outdoor space, with natural materials and of course nature play.
The children also participate in a range of extracurricular activities, including pottery, karate, yoga and cooking classes. These opportunities extend their learning and allow the children to explore new ideas and develop new skills.
Our Literacy Program
At Where We Grow, we understand the importance of early childhood education in shaping young minds. That’s why our curriculum now features a dynamic blend of Regio Emilia principles and the acclaimed Little Learners Love Literacy program, for children of all ages and abilities, designed to nurture a love for reading and language development in your child.
Our Craigieburn early learning centre has been designed to grow and inspire little minds. The outdoor areas have been constructed with nature play in mind and includes natural elements.
Our centre cook is passionate about providing healthy, delicious and nutritious meals every day. We use local produce where possible and tailor meals plans for children with specific food requirements. Our team of educators are highly qualified, providing nurturing care and education for babies through to preschool aged children.
We are a provider of the Kindergarten Program and offer an extensive school readiness program. Alongside our play-based curriculum we also offer a range of extra-curricular activities which are selected from the children’s interests, these could include pottery, karate, yoga and cooking classes.
Health & nutrition
Health & nutrition
At Where We Grow Craigieburn, the centre chef cooks and prepares all meals daily. As part of the curriculum, the children are encouraged to plant, grow and harvest their own vegetables and herbs, which are used in centre meals. Children also participate in regular cooking lessons to encourage them to develop healthy habits around food and eating. We also run a sports program to encourage movement and to learn gross motor skills through learning different sports.
Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
We invite all families to attend an orientation process before commencing at our centres, which is focused on the individual needs of each child and assists them to adjust into a new environment.
Parents are encouraged to participate in the program and centre events to support their child on their learning journey. The educators welcome feedback from parents and consult with them in making decisions. Parents can also spend time at the centre and get involved in the daily routine.
Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
We understand that our roles as early childhood educators play an important role in maximising the developmental opportunities of the children in our service. We recognise that all children learn in a different way and at a different pace. Our unique tailored learning approach is designed to suit each individual, each family and community that come through our centres.
Our centres are designed to encourage play-based learning, which supports our curriculum in developing each child’s interests, strengths and abilities.
Our educators incorporate a range of developmental approaches and theories to ensure that the uniqueness of our approach come together collaboratively with the uniqueness of our children. This collaboration is the foundation upon which our developmental curriculums, projects and environments are built. We encourage parental participation and believe that learning potential is maximised when parents are actively involved in their child’s education. We encourage feedback and parents are always welcome to spend time and help in our centre’s daily routines.
Our centres enhance the mantra of being, belonging and becoming, and are places that growth and learning walk hand in hand. Children are shown how they can be the architects of their own learning. Once a child realises this, they begin to tread their own path toward holistic development and understanding.
At Where We Grow we utilise the National Early Years Learning Framework to assist your child’s development. This framework focuses on the following goals:
- Identity
- Connections in their world
- Wellbeing
- Confidence and involvement in learning
- Communication
We understand the importance of education in the formative years of a child’s life. Our classrooms act as a doorway to further development, where learning is encouraged anywhere, at any time. Our educators encourage parental participation in the care of their children through decision making and involvement in a consultative and advisory manner. Learning at Where We Grow, will instil in your child important personal qualities, and encourage them to become intrinsically motivated, innately curious and open-minded young learners. What your child learns at Where We Grow, will carry with them for life.
