Mother Duck Child Care and Preschool Centre - Carindale Centre overview
Welcome to Mother Duck Child Care Carindale
Our educators work diligently to establish secure, supportive relationships with each child. In this environment, children feel comfortable, allowing their inquisitive minds to blossom. Our educators intentionally plan their Studios to promote a sense of belonging through the familiarity of home-like spaces. Studios within our Carindale centre are well resourced to support and foster children’s curiosity, problem-solving, early literacy and early numeracy skills.
We know that the first five years shape your child’s development and learning for life. That is why our daily practices are thoughtfully designed for intellectual, emotional, social and physical wellbeing and development. Curiosity, creativity and exploration are encouraged in a safe and supportive environment.
This strong foundation helps foster a lifelong love of learning.

About the curriculum
About the curriculum
In the infant studio, the educators follow a flexible schedule that is responsive to the needs of the individual child. Parents are encouraged to share their home routine with the educators, as they understand how important routine can be to children of this age.
Educators work to form a secure attachment with the children, as well as building relationships with the families. Parents receive a daily log from the educators which covers their child’s feeding, sleeping and toileting patterns.
The focus for the children is on those basic first skills such as sitting, crawling and walking. Educators seek to develop language skills of the children with conversation, singing and reading.
Children in the Juniors studio are developing their skills in confidence and independence, within a safe and secure environment. A consistent routine and familiar educators build a sense of security, so your child can confidently engage in learning. Socialisation will be gently encouraged and guided to help friendships and empathy form.
Your child’s growing independence is supported by caring educators who will help them take the first steps in toilet training. Educators will communicate openly with parents through conversation, as well as a daily record of your child’s eating, sleeping and toileting.
The play-based educational program is tailored to each child’s learning needs and interests. Emerging intellectual, social, emotional, physical and language skills are built on and extended.
The children in the Seniors room are developing skills in friendships and cooperative play, with the help of their educators. The children are encouraged to explore and experiment in a safe space, and educators work with children’s own interests to guide their learning.
Literacy and numeracy skills are developed through games and social interaction. Educators keep parents informed of the children’s day, their challenges, changes and daily routine.
The state government funded kindergarten is led by university qualified teachers, with a focus on building the children’s capacity for responsibility and accountability for their own learning.
With the longer hours of a child care centre, the kindergarten children have an extended opportunity to access the curriculum, giving the children scope to work on long term projects of inquiry in order to empower them as 21st century thinkers and communicators.
The key for the children is to prepare them for the transition to formal education. The children make their learning visible through words, drawing, numbers, dance, painting, clay, music, movement, loose parts, transformative play and more.

At Mother Duck Carindale, the focus of the educators is on reflective practice to ensure they understand all they can about children and their development; finding new and innovative ways to solve problems, engage in challenging tasks, and using information technology and print-based texts to find things out; giving children the gift of time to listen to their ideas and incorporate these into the curriculum; sustainable practices to teach the children how to be a valuable member of society; and teaching children skills beyond academics such as compassion, collaboration, empathy, kindness, grace and honesty.
Mother Duck Carindale is renowned for their staff retention - in fact many of their educators have been with the centre for 10 years, with some even 16 years plus.
I began my journey with the Mother Duck Family, at the Cannon Hill Centre staying there for 5 years. When Mr. Hinton purchased the Carindale site in 1998 I moved across and am to this day still loving every minute of managing my centre with an amazing team and an absolutely wonderful supportive family consisting of the management teams across all the Mother Duck Centers, Mr. Hinton and Miss Karen our CEO.

Health & nutrition
Health & nutrition
Mother Duck’s own dietitian, Fiona Hinton, prepares the menus for the centre and has over 20 years of experience. Fiona specialises in real-life strategies and practical suggestions to convert nutrition advice into food kids will eat. Fiona has collaborated on several books, including one with best-selling children’s food writer Annabel Karmel, as well as training childcare staff in children’s nutrition.
At Mother Duck Carindale, the qualified chef Kamla works full time preparing fresh meals every day for the children. The centre promotes flexible mealtimes and rest times, so that the children can understand when their bodies tell them they are hungry or tired.

My son has been going to Mother Duck Carindale since he was a baby (2+ years now) and I have always been beyond happy with the level of care he receives. The staff are all super friendly and genuinely care for the children. Communication is excellent and the rooms are always clean. The educators provide a warm welcoming space where I know that he is being provided with engaging and meaningful activities. I have seen his development flourish due to the work the educators and all of the staff put into the centre and the educational programs. I love the meals that are provided on a daily basis and know that my son is having healthy nutritious meals and snacks. I really appreciate all the care that has been provided over these years and would highly recommend Motherduck Carindale! Read more

We have been a part of the MotherDuck family for the last 2+ years and have always been so impressed by the service. From the first moment, we walked through, we felt reassured and welcome. The centre focusses on meaningful learning experiences in line with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). We have seen our little one flourish and grow in confidence from the interactions and learning experiences he has encountered. There is thoughtful planning that is implemented, with integration of lots of every day items and nature, instead of technology or store bought toys which has encouraged our child’s imagination and creativity. The centre has an onsite chef, that makes meals daily with a rotating menu each week. This is very handy for us, especially as we are a working family with minimal time to prep lunchboxes. There are four different groups of children, dependent on their age, with opportunity for the children to play together in shared spaces (I.e., yard). There younger children play in a seperate yard to the older children, which is great for the little bubs who are still learning to navigate the world. Regular communication is available and we have found that usually staff are rostered to have someone from our child’s class available to provide details of his day. There are fortnightly snapshots which have pictures and information on the activities engaged by the children. Read more
