Play is the order of the day of Goodstart Early Learning and the programs at the centre are grounded in a play-based approach. The educators embed teaching and learning into play experiences, helping the children to make sense of the world around them. This is how the children learn about how things work and develop important foundational relationships and skills. 

The primarily child-directed, play-based curriculum ensures that the children are engaged in their learning. They are encouraged to take the lead, developing their negotiation, risk taking, problem solving and social skills. The educators observe the children and help to challenge them by extending their learning and interests.

The educators recognise that every child is unique and that they bring their own needs, interests and strengths with them each day. The program is designed to be flexible to cater to these differing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive at Goodstart.

Upeksha Kulatunge

Hi, my name is Upeksha Kulatunge, and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Dandenong Heatherton Road.

I hold a Bachelor of Early Childhood teaching and have been working in the early learning sector for almost 20 years. Over the years, I’ve gained a vast knowledge through my experience working in various roles including Senior educator, Early Childhood Teacher, Educational Leader, and Assistant Director before stepping into my current role as a Centre Director. 

Being a mother of a primary school aged daughter, I understand the importance of quality education and early learning and the impact that it has on our children from an early age.  I believe that the first five years is the most important and fundamental period of a child’s life, which is why they deserve the best start here at Goodstart Heatherton road.

When I’m not in the centre, you’ll find me spending time with my family, we love going for nature walks, picnics and driving to different places. I love travelling around the world and exploring different cultures.

I look forward to working in partnership with families to ensure that I can support you, giving your child the best possible start in life.
