My daughter has been attending this childcare centre from nine months old. She has absolutely blossomed under the genuine care and love she receives from all the staff here, not just the educators. The emphasis placed on sustainability, diversity, and celebrating First Nations Peoples is very important to me as a parent and I feel very happy leaving her in the care of these wonderful people.

When people ask my opinion of this centre I always say ‘the toys are well loved and so are the children’. After visiting many glossy, private centres I came across this little gem in the city, and I’m so glad we did, as they have become such an important part of our family’s support system. They operate on a foundation of respect, and this flows through the centre from the recycled toys and furniture to the amazing staff that have been there for a long time (some 15 years plus - so rare in childcare) and of course their care for our children. I frequently visit the centre to breastfeed my son and am always so impressed with the interactions I see between the staff and children. This centre really does feel like a community, and I can’t recommend it enough.

In simple words - it's a hidden gem. I'm glad I found it. My daughter started here as a toddler and I was a single working mother. I would say I got the best support from educators and management in caring my child. She really loves to go there, how she wouldn't with such dedicated educators? They are amazing and many of them are longtimers. It is a community based, non-profit child care service operating for more than 30 years. I leave to work with peace that my child is in best hands. Knowing them for 4 years, I can say if you want experienced, high level care for your kid, this is the place.

Welcome to City Community Children’s Centre, where we've been dedicated to serving families since 1987. Initially established through the collaborative efforts of the Public Service Association of SA, the Finance Sector Union, and SA Unions, our centre was founded to meet the needs of city-working families with a 24/7 childcare service.
Our journey began at the Gilbert Street site and expanded to include a second campus on Norman Street, which operated from 1992 to 2019. Today, we operate under a community-based model, ensuring childcare accessibility aligned with Department of Education and Training guidelines.
At our centre, we are led by a dedicated management team, including our director and a committee composed of both staff members and parent representatives. Together, we are committed to providing high-quality childcare services to support every parent and child in our community.

They have smaller groups, and low staff turnover, so our kids made solid bonds with their teachers and the other kids, leading to some lovely friendships. The food is great, so our kids were always well fed when we picked them up. The staff are genuinely caring and professional and offer an actual education, not just 'child-minding'. Read more
