Each of the rooms is filled with natural open-ended age appropriate resources. The children take part in structured indoor risky play/gross motor activities (known as brain breaks), where they can exert some energy within a safe space.

Educators help children gain an emotional perspective by encouraging them to identify their feelings and produce emotional responses based on the situation. Curriculum and experiences are sufficiently engaging for all the children to create a positive classroom climate. By addressing their feelings, children learn to regulate their emotions, reorganise their thoughts and learn to cope with the unexpected. 

Literacy and numeracy learning occurs from birth to six years, as well as being given an understanding of how technology works. Gingerbread Kindergarten gives the children these skills through fun coding lessons that encourage problem solving, persistence, inquiry and algorithmic thinking.

There are three studios at the centre covering all age groups:

• Koalas Room: 6 weeks - 2 years 

• Wombats Room: 2 years - 3 years 

• Kangaroos room: 3 years - 5 years

The centre is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, where children are given time to play and are not rushed. The educators take time to know a child, their needs, and their interests - which helps to formulate each child’s individual program.

Educators understand that a child’s ability to learn new skills is based on their relationships with the significant people in their life, including their educators. 

The centre understands that children learn through play and provides uninterrupted blocks of time for children to come together in groups for project work or experiences that give them opportunities to create and explore.

Gingerbread Kindergarten aims to provide the best outcomes for everyone in our community which includes our families, children, and the educators. We believe that each child has a unique path to their learning and we as educators will help them overcome any barriers to their participation, to help them reach their full potential.

The educators at Gingerbread Kindergarten see mealtime as an important part of the day. They use them as an opportunity to engage in rich social interaction and to promote a healthy relationship with food. The children take part in mini masterchef cooking sessions each week with the centre chef, focusing on healthy eating and nutrition.

The centre offers a seasonal menu on a 4 week rotation. The healthy menu is designed and cooked by the onsite centre chef who is a nutritionist. Some of the children’s all time favourite meals include the open burger with crunchy oven chips, creamy mushroom risotto and Thai curry with rice.
