St George Montessori Engadine Early Learning
St George Montessori Engadine Early Learning Centre overview
St George Montessori Engadine provides high-quality care and education for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, fostering strong, lasting connections with families and the community. Conveniently located on Woronora Road, our service includes three vibrant, age-specific rooms—Nursery, Toddlers, and Preschool—each designed to encourage peer interaction, exploration, and curiosity. Our warm and adaptable environments support children’s growth through project-based learning, intentional teaching moments, and experiences tailored to their interests, which we identify through careful observation and planning.
Following Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy, our curriculum emphasizes real-life experiences and diverse materials aimed at developing key skills. Complemented by the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum, our approach ensures children are well-prepared for school. We enhance learning with fun incursions and excursions, including yoga, cooking, French classes, and Kelly Sports, all included in our fees. About the Curriculum
About the Curriculum
The Montessori Curriculum
The curriculum at St George Montessori is child initiated, play based and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework 2.0 (EYLF), National Quality Standards and Montessori theories of learning. Our curriculum, exclusive to us, provides a holistic approach to education and develops the child’s core learning not only for the classroom but for life.
In the Montessori classroom, children are given the freedom (within limits) to choose what work they will do and for how long they will engage in that activity. The room is divided into seven interconnected areas of activities to assist children in their development.
- Practical Life
- Sensorial
- Language
- Mathematics Activities
- Geography & Science
- Art, Culture & Music
The Montessori Approach
At St George Montessori Early Learning Centres, we use the Montessori method of teaching. Montessori education is unique, based on the discoveries and insights of Dr. Maria Montessori who devoted her life to observing natural child development, and designed and implemented an educational method devoted to the individual needs of the child. The Montessori method is a world-wide educational approach proven extremely successful.
Our Teaching Methods
The Montessori approach promotes the development of such learning factors as concentration, independence, self-direction, self-confidence, self-discipline, self-esteem, persistence and orderly work habits. At St George Montessori, the ‘prepared’ classroom environment is designed to foster the development of these capabilities as part of the child’s growing intellectual and social competence.
The Montessori method of teaching is child-centred but adult guided. Rather than “teaching” a child concepts, the Montessori environment is designed to stimulate the child’s interest and facilitate their learning capacity. Montessori education is more concerned with the process of learning than with the product and offers an educational environment where children’s natural desires to learn are encouraged and extended.
The materials and resources at our centres are designed to attract the children to pursue the need to educate themselves through stimulating activities. Dr Maria Montessori maintained that ‘progressive interest’ should characterise the young child’s world. The materials and activities permit the child to follow a sequence of difficulty, that provide continuous challenges specifically suited to the child’s intellectual, emotional, physical and social needs at each stage of development.

The curriculum at St George Montessori is child initiated, play based and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework 2.0 (EYLF), National Quality Standards and Montessori theories of learning. Our curriculum, exclusive to us, provides a holistic approach to education and combines the EYLF with the Montessori curriculum. This combination develops the child’s core learning not only for the classroom but for life.
At St George Montessori we offer nursery aged children 0-2 years old, a program with a wide variety of learning experiences utilising the Montessori approach to education. The focus of the infant/toddlers environment is fostering basic trust in the child by providing a safe and loving home like environment.
In the infants and toddlers room we allow the child to develop according to his/her own natural growth pattern and have the freedom to create his/her own personality.
Child Development Through Montessori Education
Experiences are designed to promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation for future intellectual and academic endeavours. Our classroom environment is adaptable to the physical needs of the children, both in the size of the furnishings and in the opportunities for motor development.
Montessori materials and equipment are especially designed to provide opportunities to help little muscles develop coordination, helping the child gain independence and self esteem. Special attention is given to the development of expressive and comprehensive language skills, motor and sensory development as well as mastering skills of every day tasks which will lead to greater independence.
Children choose their activities from open low shelves. The classroom offers space for movement, space for individual work, and space for group activities. Children are given opportunities to work in the development of language skill, art, music, sensorial, and practical life. We use a number of multi-sensory, sequential, and self-correcting Montessori materials to facilitate learning.
The first task a child learns when he or she comes to the Montessori classroom is that there is order in the classroom. The children learn that materials belong on the shelf at a specific place and after using it they have to replace it back at the same place. Our teacher’s demonstrates this first. When a child selects a task, he/she repeats the activity until he/she masters the task.
At St George Montessori, we provide children entering school age, with a variety of experiences that will help make the transition to school, a positive and smooth experience, through a supportive transition program. Our extensive school readiness program covers off both social and educational development. To foster children’s coping abilities, social and self-esteem development is critical. The self-esteem of all children is enhanced through attainment of development skills, successful social interactions with peers and adults, opportunities to make decisions and to contribute to the group.
Stem Activities
As part of our school readiness program, children are introduced to the concept of STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Our STEM activities promote problem-solving thinking, encourages analytical responses and creates interest in this topic. Our Kindy program incorporates STEM through science experiments, computing studies, and mathematical concepts through Montessori resources.

The best person to review St George would be my son and when we pick him up each day he's smiling ear to ear. He loves his days here and he's developed so much since he started. We like that the day is part structured and part play. And that fresh and healthy meals are provided and exercise is encouraged.

My kids have been going there for almost 6 months now and we couldn't be happier. My kids love the teachers and the centre as a whole. Fresh cooked in house meals was a big bonus as my son has allergies and they have been amazing and so supportive of working with us to make sure he is catered for.
