SDN North Sydney - Long Day Care and Preschool Centre overview
SDN North Sydney - Long Day Care and Preschool Centre highlights
- Well resourced indoor and natural outdoor areas. Each age group has a dedicated outdoor space
- We support the access and needs of every child, including customised meals for all specific dietary requirements
- Small group size giving dedicated attention to each child
SDN North Sydney provides quality education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. Through a child-led approach, all learning opportunities are tailored to the child’s unique interests and strengths.
A green oasis, the outdoor area is where the children can embark on their daily adventures. The safe environments are designed for children to run, jump and play. Children are encouraged to use their imagination and invent games while learning about the world at their own pace and developing their social skills.
The rooms are well-resourced, with many age-appropriate educational toys and equipment. The children can explore various activities including spaces for creating art and a nature corner to learn about the life cycle of plants, reading, painting and puzzles.
Close to public transport and parking outside the centre for easy and safe drop off and pick up, the centre is in a serene location, nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac.
Preschool Fee Relief
The NSW Government is providing up to $2110 in fee relief for preschool aged children who are enrolled in the preschool program at SDN Children’s Services from 2023. If your child will be 4 on or before 31 July 2023, this additional funding could mean up to $40 a week in fee relief to your family, on top of the existing child care subsidy.

Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
You wouldn’t change your child for the world, but you would change the world for your child. That’s why when we welcome children and families to our SDN village, we create a place where every child belongs.
SDN is not-for-profit. Partnering our diverse range of professionals with families to provide the best learning opportunities is what sets us apart. Together, we create a village so that every day is a chance for your child to thrive.
SDN is a child safe organisation. Our child safe culture is championed at all levels of SDN and is enshrined in our policy framework and our practice. Everything we do is designed to safeguard children, from the physical environments of our centres in which children play and learn through to how we listen to children and promote children’s rights.
At SDN, we are inclusive. We don’t just talk about inclusion, we do it. All our services welcome children from all communities, cultures and needs. Inclusion at SDN is delivered through our spaces, through our communication, through our food, through our educational program; it is inherent in all aspects of our village.
Your child, is supported by our village.
Programs
Programs
At SDN North Sydney, get more than school-ready, get life-ready.
Getting school-ready is a journey. It begins with your child’s very first day at our welcoming early education and care centre and continues with our dedicated preschool program.
Infants and toddlers
We know that the best thing we can do for your infant or toddler is to support them to grow and develop in safe, unhurried, nurturing and challenging environments. Because infants and toddlers are naturally curious, our centre has well-equipped indoor and outdoor areas that will keep your child moving and give them daily opportunities to explore their limits and grow their abilities.
Preschool
Developed by university-trained early childhood teachers, our preschool program focuses on the whole child. Children learn to make friends and work together, while gaining the skills and independence they need to thrive through the big transition to school.
Our preschool program follows an evidence-backed, play-based learning approach. Children have fun and follow their curiosity, while we weave in vital skills and learning outcomes.
SDN uses Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework to explore a diverse curriculum from science to social justice. Our days are predictable but flexible, blending structured and spontaneous learning, free play, movement and quiet time.
Our centre has a transition to school program where our teachers and educators work together with local schools to prepare your child for a smooth transition, and support families through the process.

The traditional owners of the North Sydney area are the Cammeraigal People of the Eora Nation.
SDN North Sydney officially opened on 11 December 1926. Back then it was known as the Northern Suburbs Day Nursery, located in a bungalow purchased by SDN for £2,600 and renovated. The ‘Dorothea MacCallum Cot Room’ was named in honour of then SDN President, Lady MacCallum, who had personally donated £100 towards the nursery.
On 27 May 1977, the old house was demolished and a new building constructed on the site.
Since its beginning, SDN North Sydney has undergone many changes but has always maintained and reflected a strong connection with families in a vibrant and diverse community.
