Curriculum and programs
Curriculum and programs
The educators at Goodstart Early Learning follow an evidence-based curriculum that aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Informed by world-leading research, practices and techniques, the curriculum encourages the children’s natural curiosity and engages them in their learning journey.
As the children move through the different rooms in the centre, the curriculum evolves with them. The educators set goals for the children and celebrate as they reach their milestones. At every stage, the educators are tailoring the curriculum and goals to each child’s individual needs.
The curriculum involves different types of learning experiences and styles. From child-led learning to sessions guided by educators, the children participate in small and large group sessions as well as individual play. Most importantly, the children learn through play, developing social skills, confidence and independence in addition to more formal academic skills.
Play is the order of the day of Goodstart Early Learning and the programs at the centre are grounded in a play-based approach. The educators embed teaching and learning into play experiences, helping the children to make sense of the world around them. This is how the children learn about how things work and develop important foundational relationships and skills.
The primarily child-directed, play-based curriculum ensures that the children are engaged in their learning. They are encouraged to take the lead, developing their negotiation, risk taking, problem solving and social skills. The educators observe the children and help to challenge them by extending their learning and interests.
The educators recognise that every child is unique and that they bring their own needs, interests and strengths with them each day. The program is designed to be flexible to cater to these differing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive at Goodstart.
Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
Goodstart Early Learning uses the StoryPark app to connect with parents throughout the day. The educators upload photos and stories to the secure app, which parents can access anytime and anywhere to track their child’s progress.
The approach at the centre is very much based around partnership between families and educators. The educators work with the parents and carers to build strong relationships. They develop trust so the children can feel safe and secure while at the centre. Parents are also encouraged to share their insights and feedback with educators to add depth to the relationship.
The educators observe the children every day and tailor the program around their observations. They share these with parents, so they can feel connected to their child’s progress and also provide feedback that will further enhance their child’s learning experience.

Karen
Hello and welcome! My name is Karen and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Heatley Fulham Road (previously located at Taylor Street, Heatley)
I have been in the early learning sector since 1988 and I have a Diploma in Children's Services. I have had the opportunity to work with all age groups and I have worked as the centre's 2IC and educational leader for a number of years.
I love what I do!
I believe in providing children with a warm, engaging environment that provides them with opportunities to be involved in their own fun and learning.
I feel privileged every day to be part of families’ lives and for the opportunity to be involved and watch children grow and thrive as they start on their own journeys.
Every single child is unique, important and an individual in their own right. It is a view I share with my wonderful team - all of whom are expereinced, qualified and committed to providing the highest quality in care and early education.
Drop in and say hello! We would love to make you and your family welcome and the centre and discuss how we can start your child on a journey of lifelong learning.

Son had been attending child care from 4mths old, I had switched child care centres to this child care centre when my son was about 11months till 3 and half. Had some serious issues with lack of care at the previous child care centre. We moved from Goodstart Heatley because we had relocated to Cairns. The staff were amazing in the nursery, toddler room and kinder room. Staff are well skilled and extremely low turn over of staff. So you know who is going to be working with your child consistently. The director is always helpful and kind. She is happy to work with you for any situation that you may be going through. The centre set out and the equipment is extremely interactive and stimulating for the children. When ever I have to worked out of Townsville I have placed my son back into this child care and the same workers were there and still remember my son. The director has been able to make space for me. They initially worked with my son that had attachment issues and helped with self eating issues that we were going through. So, single or both parents are full time working and you need piece of mind that your child is being taken care of to a high standard and help work through any direct concerns with your child then this place has been excellent. Definitely recommend. Read more

Goodstart Heatley made our transition into a new day care seamless and worry free, despite the fact that we started the just as the pandemic was peaking! They have really become my little one’s family and home away from home. They are always ready with a smile and know everyone by name. The food is nutritious and there’s a great variety. The rooms are spacious with heaps and educational activities. I cannot fault Goodstart Heatley! Read more
