Curriculum
Clovel centres are unique and special places where children and their families can play and learn in warm, safe, secure and friendly surroundings.
Our highly successful early learning program is based on the emergent curriculum model incorporating each individual child's interests, what each child is good at and what each child loves to do. Our belief is that if individual children are doing something they love to do they will get better and better at it and their confidence and self esteem will soar thus encouraging them to aspire to greater heights – to fly with eagles rather than scratch with chickens – the world will be their oyster!
We begin by always remembering the incalculable value for a child to have their brain wired in the early years.
The message then is 'do not let your child miss out – begin now'.
Our early learning program is designed to ensure each child is recognised as an amazingly important individual. It is based on the principle that the whole child must be developed if they is to become a well adjusted member of our society. Thus we provide the environment and experiences which will enable your child to grow and develop physically, emotionally, intellectually, culturally and socially.
Clovel's balance of structured and non structured play, explorative learning, personal choice and group participation, encourage children to develop as whole and complete individuals.
Staff
At Clovel we believe our staff members are the backbone to the caring, nurturing, developing and educating of your child – it is they who hold your child's future in their hands - for from six weeks to six years is the period when the foundation of your child's learning is created - when your child's future is determined. Research shows that by the time your child has turned 6 the academic level achieved and the career income stream attained in later life has already been determined.
Clovel staff are individually selected for their kind, caring attitude and warm friendly personality for each position at Clovel from a range of qualified and experienced candidates to ensure the achievement of our aim – that our 'Clovel' children will experience the sense of love and security we believe is imperative to allow them to grow and learn to the best of their ability in their formative years.
All staff at Clovel are either fully qualified with either Early Childhood Degree, Diploma in Children's Services, Certificate lll or currently studying vocationally by correspondence while working in a full time capacity and being supervised by a qualified staff member.
At Clovel we pride ourselves on the length of service our staff members experience with us. Clovel success rests in part on our dedication to "growing our own staff." We have long term staff members who started with Clovel as trainees, have completed their tertiary studies and now are leaders holding Nominated Supervisors positions in charge of Clovel centres. Our longest serving staff member has been with us for over 25 years.
Government Funding for Parents and Payment Structure
At Clovel our main priority is to ensure that as many young children as possible have access to our unique high quality early learning program, Thus we always try to set our fees so that the viability of the centres are ensured while affordability for families is still achievable.
Clovel is registered for Child Care Subsidy (CCS) which is a funding scheme provided by the Australian Government for families who attend accredited childcare services. This system is administered by the centre on behalf of the Australian Government and ensures the families only need to pay a gap fee.

About the curriculum
About the curriculum
A unique approach to the curriculum
The children at Clovel Childcare & Early Learning South Penrith participate in a variety of early learning programs and experiences. This centre is unique in that it involves children in the preschool program as soon as they start attending the centre, rather than waiting until they turn 3 years old. This includes a brain linkage program for children from just 6 weeks of age.
Play-based learning
Rather than a generic program for all children, the Clovel program is a child-specific play-based educational program. The educators will custom fit a program for each child based on what they are good at, what they are interested in, and what they love to do at their own pace. This style of programming has proven to be best in assisting in the development of confidence, independence, resilience, social skills, emotional strength and a love of learning. This helps to ensure that those vital building blocks necessary for school life and beyond are in place by the time your child transitions into formal education.
Educational Programs
Further to this, the educators extend on each child’s interests, projects and investigations in many ways. For instance if a child is interested in space, they will be encouraged to not only ask questions about space but experiment and research to discover the answers together – they might build cardboard box ‘rockets’ and brainstorm how different items may fly, create art of what we think aliens look like, take part in experiments on gravity…the possibilities are endless.
Building Life Skills
Each child will also receive support and encouragement to develop their important social skills, to aid in their transition to primary school. Through planned activities and spontaneous moments, each child will learn valuable skills such as:
- Cooperation with others
- Problem-solving
- Sharing and turn-taking
- Conflict resolution
- Negotiation
- Self-confidence

Health & nutrition
Health & nutrition
Eating habits
The educators at Clovel Childcare & Early Learning South Penrith feel that they have a responsibility to promote good nutrition for children. All educators are familiar with hygiene standards, nutrition principles for children and food safety laws. They know that the food the children eat at the centre plays an important role in the child’s future growth and development, as well as having an impact on their future eating habits.
Munch and Move
Clovel is involved in the NSW Government Munch and Move Initiative that supports the healthy development of children from birth to 5 years and beyond by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time. The key principles of the initiative include daily physical education lessons, rehydration programs, healthy eating and an increased knowledge of good food.
Clovel Menu
When designing the Clovel menu, the team committed to providing two-thirds of the recommended daily nutritional food intake for children less than 6 years of age. The children enjoy food such as: seasonal fruit for morning tea; 10 options for delicious sandwiches for lunch with fresh fruit for dessert; rice cakes, veggie sticks, healthy dips or fruit breads for afternoon tea. In line with their Multicultural Program and Special Days, the centre also regularly provides a hot meal for lunch, as well as sandwiches. Some of these include fried rice, Singapore noodles, spaghetti bolognese or teriyaki chicken with vegetables.
Promoting school readiness
For children in the months leading up to beginning at primary school, the educators offer a packed lunch to help them prepare for life at school. They practice sitting in a group, unwrapping sandwiches from cling wrap and opening packets. They also discuss what is in their lunch today and how it will benefit their health.
