I regret to say that my experience with Empower did not meet my expectations. I approached them with sincere concerns about my child's challenging behaviour, hoping for support and guidance. Within a few months, I was advised to seek professional assistance, which I promptly did. However, due to waitlists, this process took some time. During this period, my child's hours at the centre were significantly reduced, and he was frequently sent home after only 3-4 hours, sometimes even less. Once we secured occupational therapy, which included fortnightly sessions, and additional assessments with a psychologist, we also collaborated with Lifestart. They conducted meetings with Empower and provided recommendations to better support my child. Our occupational therapist attended meetings and site visits at Empower, offering multiple strategies to address the issues. One key piece of advice was that sending my child home was counterproductive, especially during his crucial final year before primary school. My child even expressed that he saw being sent home as a reward, saying, "I be naughty at Empower and then I get to go home." Despite these professional recommendations, the practice of sending him home persisted, yet I was still charged full fees. Although a few days' fees were waived, the number of times my child was sent home became too numerous to count. Additionally, I was concerned to overhear a staff member discussing my child's situation and the professional assistance we were receiving with another parent. I believe this was a breach of confidentiality, and it added to my overall dissatisfaction with the centre’s handling of the situation. The final straw came when my child was sent home yet again, just two days after the birth of our newest family member. At such a vulnerable time, I could no longer handle the stress and decided to pull him out of the centre entirely. As a business owner, I am fortunate to have some flexibility, but I recognize that many employers would not tolerate the frequent need to leave work unexpectedly to pick up a child from daycare, which is precisely why childcare is necessary. Overall, I felt let down by Empower. Despite following their advice and seeking professional help, the recommended actions were not consistently implemented on their end. Read more
Hi Amy, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience with Empower Early Learning Group did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide the best care and support for all our children and families, and we deeply regret that you feel let down by our service. We understand the challenges you faced during this time and want to clarify some aspects of the situation: Safety and Duty of Care, Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of all children and educators at our center. Your child was on a connection plan due to behaviors that posed a serious risk to others. In such cases, we have a duty to implement strategies to protect everyone involved, including sending children home if they have multiple significant incidents in one day. This strategy was and is still a practice EMPOWER follows not only to protect others but also to create a safe environment for your child to learn and grow. Collaborative Efforts, We held numerous meetings with your family and the other childcare service your child attended to collaborate and find the best ways to support him. We value the input from professionals such as your occupational therapist and Lifestart and worked diligently to integrate their recommendations into our approach. We also communicated openly and consistently with you throughout this process, aiming to support your child in every possible way. Additional Support and Resources, To better support your child, we invested in specific resources tailored to his needs and at times went above the required educator-to-child ratio to provide additional support. I personally, along with our team, made efforts to assist directly whenever possible. Communication and Confidentiality, We sincerely apologize for any concerns regarding confidentiality. In situations where other parents expressed worry about their own child’s safety, and being exposed to swearing an educator may have mentioned that we had a child in our care with whom we were actively working to manage certain behaviors, without disclosing the child’s identity. This was done to provide reassurance to concerned parents about the measures we were taking to ensure everyone’s safety, while maintaining the privacy of your child. We understand that this was a particularly challenging time for you, especially with the arrival of your newest family member. Please know that your child’s time with us concluded in April 2024, and we genuinely tried our best to provide the care and support needed during his time with us. We are sorry that the solutions we implemented did not align with your expectations and that this has led to dissatisfaction. We care deeply about the families in our community and are always open to learning and improving based on the feedback we receive. We hope to have the opportunity to discuss this further if you wish. Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you and your family all the best. Jade
