About the curriculum
About the curriculum
The Educators at Imagine Childcare and Kindergarten Kelso value the children, and their voices are at the centre of their programs. The embedded daily rhythms and individual classroom educational programs are influenced by the individual needs of each child and family.
The centre’s daily rhythm allows the children to experience an indoor/outdoor play flow to their day. This enables the children to choose which environment they wish to experience.
The indoor classrooms are strategically planned in order to create a calm and engaging environment. The Educators have areas within classrooms which promote solitary or social play, imaginative, or intentional teachings. The spacious outdoor environments increase the children’s ability to develop their gross motor skills and grow their appreciation for nature.
The Educators pride themselves on prioritising the needs of each individual child. They use room ages as a guideline, and place new children into the service and transition existing children, by taking into account the individual child and family wishes.
Children are cared for in the following groups:
- Nursery
- Tiny Tots
- Toddlers
- Junior Kinder
- Pre-Kinder
- Preschool
Health & Nutrition
Health & Nutrition
The centre understands that nutrition plays an important role in each child’s physical development as well as their attitudes towards healthy food.
All of the meals and snacks are prepared onsite by professional qualified chefs every day. The children work alongside the Educators to care for the centre’s vegetable patches, and these vegetables are then used in the kitchen or for cooking experiences with the children.
The Educators use meal time as an opportunity to share positive experiences around food and to help children develop social skills such as sharing and turn taking. They role model positive behaviours and attitudes, and involve the children in the menu planning.
All food allergies, intolerances, cultural requirements and family preferences are taken into account by consulting with parents when meal planning for the children. The children’s absolute favourite lunch is tacos - everyone serves themselves and eats together in a social setting.

Tess is ten months old and loves to play outside with her friends when she first arrives. She helps her Educator check on the veggie patch and give the plants some water.
Lunchtime
Tess has woken up from her nap and is playing with some soft blocks on the mat with her friends and an Educator. She is learning how to make a tower and then knock it down.
Afternoon
The children are enjoying some music with their Educators, who are singing some nursery rhymes. Tess claps along to the familiar tunes.
Morning
Adam is two years old and likes to play outside when he first arrives. He and his friends head for the spider rope climbing equipment and try to make it to the top.
Lunchtime
Adam is having some fun making pizzas for lunch with the centre chef today. He adds flour to the dough and has a turn at kneading it to make it nice and smooth.
Afternoon
Adam is helping the Educators water the vegetable garden. He fills the watering can and gives some water to the strawberries and raspberries, before picking a few to taste test.
Morning
Leah is four years old and loves learning languages with the centre’s ELLA program. Today she is learning a new song that will teach her the colours of the rainbow.
Lunchtime
After lunch Leah is enjoying some quiet time with her friends. They complete a few puzzles together before moving on to some drawing at the table.
Afternoon
The children are excited to head out on an excursion to visit a local school. Leah is going to school next year and can’t wait to see what the classrooms are like.

We have been told that they have 5 days vacant. Therefore, we started filling out the forms. Then, we have been asked to do one orientation session, which we have done. I had an email confirming the sart day 3 weeks later. I called them to ask if we could start earlier, but the answer was no. A few days later, I had a call asking me to do another orientation session !!!! I did follow the instructions and did it. I felt that myself and my child were not welcomed in the centre (as? Because we both have dark skin and black hair). The next day, I called them, they said there is another person wants to talk to us before enrolment. The day after I called as no one called me, they said no need for another person to talk to me. However, they need to check availability. A few days later, they called me saying there is no availability despite having an email confirming the starting date in the next 3 days from today's date. I had a bad feeling and believed that they did not like my son and my skin and hair colour. Thank you #grow_early_education_kelso for being racist. Read more

After moving my children from another preschool & learning that this centre was too newly taken over we took the chance as we had heard some lovely feedback & a lot of the educators we loved from our previous centre had moved there! This has been the best decision ever! The educators are absolutely amazing! Directors and chef are the best! And the learning the children do is fantastic my boy in preschool room has came leaps and bounds with the school readiness that’s being done! I would definitely highly recommend this preschool! If you want your children loved, educated and for them to have an amazing outdoor setting this is where you need to be! Read more
