West Leederville School of Early Learning
West Leederville School of Early Learning Centre overview
We are a Western Australian owned and run business, established in 1974 by Bernadette Giambazi, who received an AM in 2000 for her services to the Australian Early Childhood sector.
Bernadette’s daughters, Louise, Sarah and Genevieve continue their mother’s passion, commitment and excellence as hands on Directors of Schools of Early Learning.
Our Early Learning Programmes are developed based on observations of the children. Staff document the children’s learning, combining anecdotes, photographs, videos and audio to gain a picture of individual children and their interactions and relationships. Collaborative aims, focused on children’s interests are identified, building on the skills and knowledge already acquired, how the interests may be expressed and the skills necessary.
Literacy and numeracy are natural consequences of this inquiry based approach to learning. Through research, investigation, exploration, planning, designing and hypothesising, children read, experiment, imagine and create. The children’s discoveries and the meaning they make of them are recorded in drawings, photographs, writing, measuring, spatial organisation, graphs and numbers. Exploring collaboratively, children develop skills in working with others, communicating, making choices and sharing knowledge.
The School of Early Learning purposefully includes large specific Studio spaces and dedicated Studio Educators, whose role is outside of the day to day care of the children, to facilitate individual exploration, learning, experimentation and growth of self-expression by children, through their interactions with the visual arts.
We are committed to employing and retaining the best Educators in the profession, with all of our employees having a minimum Certificate III level of qualification. All staff are encouraged to actively complete qualifications through our own high level Registered Training Organisation, Early Years Education Training (EYE Training). The standard of training delivered by EYE Training, and therefore the skill and commitment level required by students is rigorous, with the resulting graduates producing a very high quality of employee.
We pride ourselves on our understanding of the needs of our community and providing the highest quality education and care to our children and their families.

We pulled our son out of this centre as it was a terrible experience, there were multiple occasions that we picked our son up and his nappy hadn’t been changed all day as the feces had dried and stuck to his skin. He also was dehydrated many times when we picked him up the centre continually lost his clothes and toys and would pack his bag with other children’s clothes and toys to take home the centre was extremely under staffed and unorganised, the floor staff were doing the best they could, the problem appeared to be higher up management enrolling as many kids as possible for profits without sufficient staff or resources during his 4 months at the centre he caught COVID, hand foot and mouth, the flu and conjunctivitis, I would highly recommend to not enrol your children into this childcare centre, they are all about profits and enrolling as many children as possible and not the Welfare and what’s best for the children. We found another smaller centre which we are extremely happy with who generally care for the children complete regular nappy changes and have a great ratio of staff per children. Read more
