Dear Parents, I wanted to reach out to share a concerning experience I recently had with Red Bear Preschool, which I believe is important for any parent considering enrolling their child there. Recently, my daughter, Devlyn, was involved in an incident at the center where she was accidentally hit near her eyebrow by a flying object. While accidents can happen, I was particularly troubled by the way the incident was handled by the staff and management. Despite my concerns about the potential severity of the injury—imagine if the object had hit her eye or caused a concussion—the school’s response was dismissive. They described the incident as “an accident” and attributed it to Devlyn being in the “wrong place at the wrong time.” Furthermore, when I requested an apology from the child involved or their parents to help teach empathy and accountability, the school refused, stating that an apology is not appropriate at this age in their setting. I am sharing this experience not to alarm, but to inform you so that you can make a more informed decision about your child’s care. In my view, a childcare center should prioritize both the safety of the children and the values of empathy and responsibility, especially in situations where an injury has occurred, whether intentional or accidental.
